maxproaudiouser
Hello guys, I'm a sound engineer and I've never bought myself a mac. Or once, yes, i got an old PM9500, that I cheaply upgraded with sonnet componements.. never compatible with audio hardwares.. This time, I was almost ready to buy a macbookpro or a G5. But, as I dropped on the Tiger install with rosetta patch, the first thing I did, like you all I guess, was to backup my Xp installation (which was for once not too buggy!), and I burned the iso "tiger patched rosetta" on a dvd. A miracle, an apple came on the screen and tiger installed perfectly. My hardware was partially recognized, I use an acer travelmate 8104, pentium M 760, 1Go ram. The ethernet controler was not there, so were the onboard soundcard and the radeon X700.. but, I was surprise to have my buscard LACIE firewire800 instantly installed and recognized. Anyway, I had no surprise with a mobile computer not to have all stuff working (it's almost the same with windows isn't it?!) Then , I plugged my professional audio in : first my pro tools MBox.. after installation or a previous version (6,4) the program lauches, detects the usb audio device, initialize and eventually crashes... ditto for Digital performer with a MOTU traveller firewire audio interface. Dreams of mine vanished and I sweared I won't end up so easily . Even Linux system have the ALSA wonderful driver that recognize almost all professional devices.. I guess the problems come with chipset compatibility because, mostly, the tiger crashes with the kernel error pannel, grey and white, which hangs the machine for good; Could someone tell me how and if running my professional audio apps is possible on a PC with a tiger Os installed ? Thanks for comprehension. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9801-pro-audio-user-on-x86/ Share on other sites
jdxxx
When you say Tiger, which version? You need at least 10.4.3 to start playing. Chances of this working, based on communal experience, is slim unless you are willing to spend hours and hours messing around. It will be cheaper to buy a Mac. AlienLuvChild
I got a beta universal bin for my Focusrite Sapphire and now it's working (mostly). My M-Audio Keystation 49e works fine and I'm running Cubase all on a patched 10.4.3 8f1099 install. Still having some VST issues but I can record audio and use the VST's that install with Cubase. kday
Ah, screw ProTools. Logic Pro is where it is at. I love that program. Logic 7 comes with loads of useful plugins that you used to pay $300+ for. ProTools is an overly expensive, outdated piece of software IMO. Ok, I will stop trolling now, as I am rambling off topic.
