PowerPC 6100/60 Posted April 6, 2008 Share Posted April 6, 2008 Been a while, but it's nice to be back. Still remember us waiting and searching for that WWDC Leopard Beta. Anyway, I wanted WiFi in addition to Cable - always useful to have. So I had Rogers (big ISP/everything-else-provider in Canada) exchange my Cable modem for an SMC cable modem that included WiFi. Brought it home, plugged in the power adapter, plugged in the cable line, plugged in the USB (might as well), and attached the two antennae. Painless, really. I was online right away, no configuration. WiFi (Airport) network also fired up with no problems. Life is good. But . . . I can't seem to password-protect the WiFi. I went in to the Networks section of System Prefs in Leopard, and although it seems to recognize that there is WiFi, it doesn't seem to allow me to control/configure it. I tried the assistant but to no avail. When it comes to Networking, I'm not that bright, I'm afraid. Any help? hecker Posted April 6, 2008 Share Posted April 6, 2008 Wifi security is configured on the router, not the client. Check your router's manual to see how to access the configuration interface. Then go in there an set WPA2 or WPA with password. Was pretty easy, just had to navigate to router's website and set the encryption, etc. Similar to how I can tweak my HP printer's settings via the web, I suppose. But only to match the password and encryption method you selected in the modem. It can be edited in the airport section of your network configuration. Go to the list with the connection profiles and select edit or add a new one in case there are no entries in the list.
