Nargilem
In this topic you can see how to get OSX working on the Asus U3S. For a more updated version, click here. 1. Specs CPU: Intel Core2Duo - working (requires patched bios) Memory: 1,5 Gb - working Graphics (power saving): Intel X3100 - working (requires paulicat natit) Graphics (speed): nVidia G8400M - working Hard Drive: 160Gb - working DVD Drive: DVD RW, CD RW - working Display: 13.3" (1280x800) - working Network (ethernet): Realtek 8111/8168B - working Network (wifi): Intel 4965 a/b/g/n - not working, in progress Sound: Intel 82801H - working Webcam: 1.3 Mega Pixel - not working 2. What you'll need - iAtkos v1.0r2 - Zephyroth rev2 - Kalyway 10.5.2 Combo updater - Apple Leopard graphics update - Modded BIOS ( attached ) - Vanilla kernel 9.2.0 - Airport & Time Machine Update - Bluetooth kexts ( attached ) - Powermanagement.bundle 3. Flashing the BIOS To make OSX work on this laptop, you'll need to flash your BIOS. This can be done in windows vista, or with a USB stick. We'll flash is using a USB stick, since some of you might not have vista. So, format the USB stick to FAT format and copy over the BIOS file ( don't forget to extract it first!). Then boot your laptop, hold F4 and you'll get into Asus Easy Flash Utility. Use arrows to select your BIOS file, press enter to select it. Make sure you have enough battery left, and don't power off the laptop until flashing the BIOS is complete. 4. Configure the BIOS to boot from DVD Get into the BIOS by pressing F2 at boot Boot>Boot Device Priority 1. CD/DVD 2. Hard Drive 5. Install iAtkos Just burn the image to a dvd using your favorite ISO burning tool, burn it at a lower speed to be sure the image is burnt correctly. Boot the laptop with the dvd, wait till installer shows up. Go to Utilities > Disk Utility and partition your disk the way you want to, make sure MBR ( Master Boot Record ) is selected in options, but it is by default. Close Disk Utility, and the installer will show up. Select: - Patches > Remove AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement driver and thermal kexts Don't select a bootloader, it won't work. You need the Zephyroth rev2 for the MBR. ( unless there's a better way? ) 6. Install a Bootloader As you might have noticed, your laptop now has a working OSX install but it can't boot into it without the install dvd inserted. To fix this, you boot the Zephyroth rev2 disc. In installer, select Bootloader -> Single Boot -> MBR ( efi v8 ) and UNCHECK all other options, don't install anything else! 7. Update to 10.5.2 Use Kalyway Combo Updater 10.5.2, after installing it will reboot a few times and stay in bootscreen for a long time, don't panic. 8. Install graphics update Download the Leopard Graphics Update 1.0 from apple.com http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/leo...csupdate10.html Install it and reboot, this will take a while but works perfectly. 9. Go Vanilla Install vanilla kernel ( not the patched one ), then simply reboot and you're in 9.2.0. 10. Airport & Time Machine Update To get the 9.2.2 kernel, install the Airport and Time Machine Update from apple.com http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/tim...updatesv10.html 11. Bluetooth and Battery fixes After updating, install the battery and bluetooth drivers. Download kexthelper and install the kexts. Install powermanagement.bundle by copying it to /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/ directory. Then reboot, and battery should be working again. 11. Future Webcam isn't working yet, no news about that. Wifi driver isn't ready yet, but there's hope. ( watch the iwidarwin project ) Check DiaboliK's page about the U3S for updates. 12. Credits DiaboliK who figured out how to get OSX working on this laptop, and shared this knowledge. PingunZ for compiling this tutorial and making it forum friendly. Kaybl for figuring out the Asus BIOS Mod to enable All cpu cores. Uphuck and the OSX86 Turk team for building iAtkos. Zephyroth for his DVD Kalyway for his 10.5.2 hackint0sh updater. mac.nub for his modified AppleSMBIOS. Delish for Kext Helper b7.
super_paws
Awesome! Got it working on my U3S. Only gripes are WiFi and webcam not working..ok for now. The integrated GPS is also another thing that I would like to get working, although it's a slim chance that it'll be functional.
super_paws
How did you manage to get the audio ports working? In sound inputs/outputs, I only see HD Audio as output and no other input/output devices. Sound only comes out from the internal speakers at this point. I'm using the ALCInject.kext and the other ALC kext from your package.
