My laptop has the radeon mobility 9200 too. I've only found a way to hack the drivers to force the resolution mode of my monitor. The thread is"1280 x 800 ..... nsmith40
I'm in the same boat, Compaq x1000, Centrino 1.5GHz, 64 MB ATI Mobility 9200, stuck at 1280x1024. I need to find a way to get to 1680x1050 (or at least 1280x800, I just need a widescreen resolution) I'm currently running 10.4.3, soon to upgrade to 10.4.4 has anyone been able to run widescreen with this video card? nsmith40
Here's how I'm running 1280x1024 on the Compaq x1000: OSx86 10.4.3 8F1111A Patched Jas v4.2b I edited /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.Apple.Boot.plist to include the following lines of code <key>Graphics Mode</key> <string>1680x1050x32</string> then, reboot Although I have 1680x1050 in the com.Apple.Boot.plist file, it only displays at 1280x1024. That's all i did. Hopefully this helps someone out there. Lets hope the widescreen situation can be figured out because the 4:3 ratio stretched to widescreen is really annoying! Louis
Beware! X1000 laptops use 3 different 16:10 resolution sizes on the 15"4 built in displays..... Mine is 1280x800 with ATI supported in Windows, Ubuntu, etc..... On X86 with vesa 2, the highest res is 1024x768---4:3 nsmith40 has an higher 16:10 resolution than mine, and that's the only reason why he can go to 1280x1024....still 4:3 and still stretched width..... Now, I'm investigating connecting S-Video cable and external VGA display to see If tricking the X86 into higher res on built-in display is possible....I'll let you know..... I'm a long time Mac user and I have a feeling that all older ATI and Nvidia hardware made/sold for PC's would need to be flashed with Mac specific/modified Rom images.....to run properly in X86 It's always been the case before X86, when Mac Gamers or Pro users bought PC versions of ATI cards to save $$$$ because ATI was charging a lot more for Mac versions of the exact same card..... There was a simple procedure out there to flash the cards from Windows rom to Mac rom to be able to use them in Macs..... P.S. Until someone can make the ATI8500 display drivers work in X86, we are out of luck....with our widescreen displays.... BTW, the ATI GPU is not soldered to the motherboard on my X1000.... tha_toadman
well all..I GOT IT! 1280x1024 on the widescreen - it's streched but so usable now compared to before. it's a bummer about the drivers though...time will tell.
