The iPhone Dev team claim they have developed a tool, after which the iPhone can work with unsigned firmware. Because of this, it's now possible to make homemade firmware. The software, named the' iPhone Pwned project ', not only allow the restrictions imposed by Apple to be removed, but also allow the 1.2-beta firmware to install successfully on the iPhone.

According to the Iphone Dev team the Pwned-tool pathes the bootloader of the iPhone, so that non-Apple approved code can be run. As a result, it's possible to use adapted or original firmware from within iTunes.

Most important the hack would continue to work with future firmware-updates, where as tools such as Jailbreak must be updated at each new firmware.

Whats sad is that I stayed up ALL night waiting for it to get released today.. only to take a 4 hour nap and wake up to the site saying its going to be delayed a few more days. I had even created my own boot screen logo to replace the apple icon. Was planing on patching it into the pwned app itself so that it preloads it for me. Oh well... a few more days cant hurt.
