James-
Well I spent about half a day downloading Zephyroth's 10.5.2 Revision 2 Leopard distro and burned it to a DVD. Tried booting, didn't get far. Grey Apple logo screen comes up for ~5 seconds before it says I have to reboot. Here's the error from verbose mode: SAM Multimedia: Read or Write failed, SENSE_KEY = 0x04, ASC = 0x08, ASCQ = 0x03 SAM Multimedia: Read or Write failed, SENSE_KEY = 0x04, ASC = 0x08, ASCQ = 0x03 disk2s2: I/O error 0 [Level 3] [ReadUID 0] [Facility com.apple.system.fs] [ErrType IO] [ErrNo 5] [IOType Read] [PBlkNum 6824] [LBlkNum 151] [FSLogMsgID 1161628032] [PSLogMsgOrder First] 0 [Level 3] [ReadUID 0] [Facility com.apple.system.fs] [DevNode root_device] [MountPt /] [FSLogMsgID 1161628032] [PSLogMsgOrder Last] panic (cpu 0 caller 0x0036cad7): "Process 1 exec of /sbin/launchd failed, errno 5\n"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1228/bsd/kern/kern_exec.c:2884 Debugger called: <panic> Backtrace, Format - Frame : Return Address (4 potential args on stack) 0x1b3dbe48 : 0x12b0e1 (0x4555b4 0x1b3dbd7c 0x133238 0x0) 0x1b3dbe98 : 0x36cad7 (0x486d94 0x5046e4 0x5 0x0) 0x1b3dbef8 : 0x34e5a5 (0x30cec50 0x7e 0x2e1d08c 0x80000001) 0x1b3dbf38 : 0x37bfa9 (0x2e352e8 0x0 0x0 0x5b76e4) 0x1b3dbf68 : 0x12919a (0x2e352e8 0xffffff7f 0x1v3dbf98 0x1368db) 0x1b3dbfa8 : 0x1a6d85 (0xffffffff 0x1 0x270000 0x530000) 0x1b3dbfc8 : 0x19e43b (0x0 0x0 0x1a10b5 0x2b3d0e4) Backtrace terminated-invalid frame pointer 0 My only idea as to why it -might- do this is because my HDDs are encrypted with TrueCrypt so the partitions aren't readable, but that shouldn't interfere with the booting off the disk. intrax
Same error after installing Leo4All v4.1 for AMD. Allthough install went smooth as did the first boot after the install. Second boot I get this.... Any ideas ? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/96428-cant-install/#findComment-878678 Share on other sites
mac_cute
A picture will be great to see what is going on (to see what comes at the end).At first sight I can see that maybe you have a bad disc. You can read it in the line SAM Multimedia:Read or Write failed... Reburn your ISO image at lower speed (4x,2x or 1x) and try again Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/96428-cant-install/#findComment-878810 Share on other sites
intrax
SAM Multimedia:Read or Write failed... Thanks your reply.. Well I didn't get the SAM error, just the kernel panic. What is strange is that the install and the FIRST reboot was succesfull. Mounting and browsing the Leopard volume using Macdisk doesn't reveal any disk errors.. so I tend to think it's something else.. edit: Examining the Leopard volume I see that the /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache file is missing. Shouldn't it be rebuilt automagically at boot ? Could this be the cause ? intrax
I rewrite the dvd at LOW speed and reinstalled Leopard (Leo4All 4.1 AMD iso). It's working now on my Compaq AMD SSE2 system, no kernel panics anymore at reboot. I have no sound though (AC97 with sis southbridge Sis7012 package not working) and no resolution switching (ATI Radeon 9250). Can I use Callisto on Leopard ? Any ideas ? Suc6! P.S.: sorry I hijacked this thread, should have opened a new one.
