hey

i'm going on vacation this week to America and i want to buy an iPhone in New York. But i have a question: when i go to an apple store and i buy an iPhone, do i have to sign a kind of a contract with at&t (because if i have to start paying immediately those monthly fees, i wont buy that because i will jailbreak my iphone to use it in europe), or can i just buy an iphone, pay 399 dollars and walk away without paying a damn dollar to AT&T ?

thx

so that's what i'm gonna do (correct me if i'm doing something wrong):

-buy that iphone in the apple store in new york, pay 399 dollar (which is only 258 euro!!!! super cheap! :D )

-wait 'till i'm at home

-boot up my imac under mac os x. update that iphone (if it isn't 1.1.4 yet)

-reboot my imac under windows xp

-download ziphone

-put my sim card in the iphone and connect it to my imac

-jailbreak, unlock and activate it at once (by pressing that button that does it all for you)

and then i can call people, install games on it, listen to music and to everything that the iphone can do without any problems?

are these steps correct?

Think Mark is wrong. You don't sign up with a contract with AT&T. That is what you do when you connect it to your computer. Though you can take out the AT&T SIM, put in yours, unlock it, and presto. It works.

EDIT: ZiPhone is for Mac OS X too.
