okay, in times past, I could not install iatkos Kalyway 10.5.1 without getting the infinite setup loop ( disc boot, partition, setup, setup complete, reboot, setup would restart) except for one time out of 100 when it actually went on to keyboard detect, account setup, finish....(even then i had to have freakin dvd in drive to boot!

i tried leo 4 all as well but i got to the freaking account migration, then it would loop me back to keyboard detect. most of the time it would just reboot after install complete and give me the blinking "_" or give me the message message apple.plist.com ........ not found!so after trying to get 10.5.1 and then 10.5.2 to install, i almost gave up.

I was staying up late, pissing off my girlfriend, and being mad, then i found a method that got it installed!!!!now i know this sounds silly, but it worked and i dont know why.first i tried installing 10.5.1, but i got the freaking install screen upon reboot after it said install complete.

i checked and removed dvd from drive and checked boot order, but it would not boot from hd and when dvd was in, it just tried to reinstall. I formatted with mbr and had only 1 partition using mac os ext. jour.

i tried everything i found online for these symptoms and errors and nothing worked.so

i popped in the 10.5.2 dvd and booted from dvd first. it too started to take me through installer. instead of reformatting the disc and making new partition, i told it to install on the disc which had only 74 of 79 gigs available (the other space already had 10.5.1 installed on it.

i did not choose any disc utility options, rather i just chose disk to install on (in my case i named it OSX which had 74 of 79 gigs available) and hit continue.

It too installed and rebooted to give me setup screen, so i changed boot from dvd first to boot from h.d., and restarted again, this time it went to the keyboard setup! then it took me to the account setup, then migration (heres where i kept my fingers crossed), then woila, the rest (address email ect) and i was in! It says iatkos v1r ,and version 10.5.2, core 2 duo mac pro!

Then i rebooted and took out dvd. wow, it boots darwin loader from hd, then boots up 10.5.2reboot worksshut down works

a few questions

1 what is a near vanilla install?

2 why do dvd's not play? it says there was an initialization error?

3 how do you enter options at start up? hit f8 when it says darwin 86, then type the word options?

4 why dont i get the graphical grey screen with apple during boot?

5 is darwin remote easy to install?

6 can i make a exact clone of this hard drive right now while the whole Mac osx 10.5.2 is working so that if i ever crash, i can just restore the exact image to a fresh disc? and how do i do that? what programs or boot tools?

despite my being new to this, i am willing to learn command lines and terminals and startup options if i just knew where, when, and how to access them.

i did not bug others on here, i just tried over and over and kept on researching my hardware until i got lucky.

now that i got this up and going, i want to clone the hard disc so i can make future restores a snap! thats my main concern because trial and error wont be so bad if i am not always struggling to restore the whole operating system on system crashes..

thanks keith

oh and by the way, i have bios set to st3 and limit cpuid. hdd set to raid and ethernet disbaled.

Hay,

Could you give me a step by step recap of how exactly you came to a final 10.5.2 install, I need to do the same on my computer. In return, Im sure I can help with the no graphical boot and how to clone the drive.

a few questions

Use EFI & stock kernel.

2 why do dvd's not play? it says there was an initialization error?

Missing QE & CI

Yes, examples are -x (safe) -v (verbose) -f -s (single user: root) -legacy (32 bit only).

4 why dont i get the graphical grey screen with apple during boot?

Good question ...

5 is darwin remote easy to install?

Yes, at least work for me: Acronis True Image v10, v11 (only sector by sector)
