Hi mac lovers :dev:

I'm using 10.4.3 on my production machine for quite some time (dual booting with xp) and I'm really happy with it. Everthing works and is fast. Some things are tricky, though. Like installing Saft on Safari etc.

Yesterday I made a fresh 10.4.4 installation on a spare 8 GB harddrive. Everything worked fine and the system seems to be stable.

Now I'm wondering if 10.4.4 is ready for replacing 10.4.3 on my system. Are there any known problems? I can't believe that maxxuss patches do work so well, that there are no incompatibilities. But then again, I didn't notice any problems. What are your experiences?

It's really amazing how fast 10.4.4 was ready... :D

I've done a few hours of video editing using 10.4.4 and iLife 06 and it seems alot snappier and stronger than 10.4.3. If you think your 10.4.3 is good enough for 'production'....then you will be impressed with 10.4.4 for sure!!

I don't have a bad word to say about it.

Bring on 10.4.5!!!

Untill my ac97 audio is supported - im not upgrading.

in 10.4.3 i get the infamous "left channel only" sound system. Nice!

As soon as a version is out with proper kext's for my audio - ill upgrade.

As far as im concerned - 10.4.3 is solid anyway - certainly no worse than linux. :pirate2:

Its just as stable for me + mouse tearing is almost gone.

I'm using 10.4.4 all the time now.

Severnya - there should be no reason for your sound not working if you copy the kexts from 10.4.3 (note I removed AudioIPCDriver.kext from 10.4.4 as *I think* that is for the iMacs sound system and my sound is working fine)

The best thing to do if hardware stops working is to do kextstat from the terminal in both systems and see if anything is missing from the new version and add them in.

Would there be any benefit for non Intel GMAxxx and ATI X16xx video users to upgrade to 10.4.4?

As I'm stuck with the Radeon 9000 inside my laptop and still using VESA I was wondering if the speed benefit is also included for non-Apple supported video chipsets...

Unplug any input sources from your audio card. For some reason having a mic seems to causing the audio to go mono.

10.4.4 is almost 1.5x faster (by xbench results) and feels more stable, at least constantly crashing Safari is solid stable now.

I bet you were using 8f1111. My 10.4.4 xbench is almost the same as 8f1099. I haven't noticed any difference in speed or stability. I didn't expect to. I installed 10.4.4 for the same reason I installed 10.4.1 and 10.4.3: because I could. BTW, do people really use Safari? Try the deer park for intel buddy. ^_^
