codingmonkey
Hello everyone, I'm an OSX86 newbie, although I do have a lot of experience with Linux so I'm comfortable on the command line. For the record, this is my system (custom built): CPU: Core2Duo E4300 @ 3.37 GHz Motherboard: Asus P5N-E SLI (650i) Memory: 2 GB OCZ PC-4200 Video Card: BFG 8800 GTS Hard Drives: 2x160 GB Seagate 7200.9 I have Ubuntu on one of the Seagate drives and Windows on the other. I partitioned the Windows drive and created an empty primary 50 GB partition for Mac OS X. I have both the Kalyway 10.5.1 DVD and iATKOS v1.0i. When I boot the iATKOS DVD, it loads a couple of files and instantly restarts. I have a bit more luck with the Kalyway DVD. I read in the HCL that the E4300 does not work overclocked, however, resetting the BIOS back to default does not seem to help at all. In fact, Kalyway's kernel panics when I reset my BIOS to default settings. Kalyway install With the Kalyway it's been very hit and miss. There is some reoccurring error messages during the verbose boot (the second part where the font changes). They are: something about com.apple.SystemStarter: Failed to count the number of files in /System/Library/StartupItems. This error message appears several times. CoreRaidServer [43]: 15627 not responding has popped up a couple of times. WARNING: sandbox_init error Cannot apply named profile 'mDNSResponder': No such file or directory appears several times. sometimes everything craps out and I get a kernel panic but that doesn't happen all the time. Anyways, if the kernel doesn't panic (which usually happens when I'm using factory settings), the installation actually starts up. The first time I didn't know I needed to go to the Disk Utilities so I pressed "Continue" at the first screen and agreed to the "license", at which point my computer froze. Several times after that I would be able to get into the Disk Utility, start formatting the partition I want to use and it would freeze when it was getting the partition ready to erase. Boot Parameters After reading the newbie guide I decided to try some of the kernel flags. I've tried cpus=1 and also the -s and -x parameters. However, both -s and -x don't seem to do anything. I figured it would go into text mode with -s but that's not the case. I've tried to follow the Easy Installation Guide (that's down right now) by deleting the partition and setting it active (using Partition Magic 8, though) but to no avail. I'm not really sure what to try next or what could be going wrong. Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you! codingmonkey
The problem was solved by getting the iATKOS 1.0i RC3 DVD. I had the 1.0i but not RC3, that's very important!
