Hello,

I'm very satisfied with my Hackintosh, but there's one thing that's ugly and makes me angry.

Whenever I try to copy a DVD (normal data-dvd / writing stuff on a blank dvd), I get a kernel panic.

DVD-Drive: LG SATA DVD+-R/W/RAM...

Any ideas?

(I post this twice - on the Transmission-Kernel-Panic Thread and here, because it's a solution for both problems!)

Hey ho,

I had the same problem on my Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 but I was able to solve it this morning! :D

The problem was indeed the Jmicron driver. I had to remove it from /System/Library/Extensions and connect my SATA-HDD to the orange Ports (ICH9). In the BIOS is set HPET to 64bit (dunno if this is relavant for the solution but I forgot it before) and the Mode to AHCI (first entry).

I tested those 3 "kernel panic" candidates:

1. Copying a CD-ROM with Toast (works without any problems and Kernel Panics now - before - everytime Kernel Panic)

2. Running Transmission after a break (rebuilding/checking data). This also caused a Kernel Panic before)

3. Recording some stuff with iShowU and editing/processing video with Stomp.

All of them worked perfect.

But there's one more (bad) thing...

I'm only able to use 2 of my 6 SATA Ports onboard. Personally I don't care that much, because I can use my LG SATA DVD-R/RW/RAM and one of my HDDs. My other HDDs are stored in my 19" local server in the basement rack :)

Hope this helps for you, too!

Ciao

Ok - me again. I'm happy to report that since that fix my Hackintosh works "rock solid" running since 3 days now without any problems while recording tv shows with EyeTV, burning stuff with Toast and downloading (of course legal! :P) stuff with Transmission :D

y.

Can you like elaborate on that?, what message do you get, I get "Logical Hardware Failure" when I try to burn a disc, but I can read them fine, using a IDE drive connected via IDE to SATA adapter, although it shows as a secondary drive on channel 0, my board has 4 ports but 2 sata channels, weird channel 0, 1 with both primary and secondary, so 4 devices in total..

Also what are you usingfor your card nvinject or natit?, and did you install the graphics update?

I'm using nvinject and no graphics update. I'm sorry, but I can't tell you more detailed information, because everytime I inserted a blank disc - or even started burning it - I got the kernel panic.

My DVD-Drive is a LG-SATA, connected to one of the "purple" ports on the board.
