You could also just stick the HDD in a USB enclosure and install to it, then when your done and everything is loaded put it back in your machine!

Wait just a sec! I have an external USB drive... 500Gig in fact. Can OSX boot off of it, or can I make a bootable CD/DVD to boot OSX installed on this USB drive?

Disable "Native SATA Support" or a similar setting in your BIOS.I had to do it with my Compaqintosh to get it running as well, and now I've got the Leopard purring (although it's kinda hot).
I wonder if that would equate to enabiling eSATA support?
