likeatiger
Hi all, I've got 10.4.4 running using the IONetworkingFamily kext from 10.4.3. I can browse the web but SMB connections don't work. Furthermore, I can't ping out (ping: socket: Operation not permitted), do traceroutes or anything. I can ping the machine from another box and that works. I can also SSH out of the machine. Any suggestions? ipfw shows no rules except for allow all from all to all. Worked fine in 10.4.3, using a RealTek gigabit card that shows up as "built-in ethernet". Opening SYstem Preferences works but when I select the card, preferences "quits unexpectedly". technolion
If you can browse the web or ssh out your network card works fine. So don't worry about the driver for the network card. If you only cannot access windows shares with smb there must be some other problem. Do you have a SSE2-only processor? Maybe the SMB stuff uses some SSE3 commands that are not covered by Maxxuss Patch. I have an SSE3-CPU but unfortunately I cannot test SMB because there is no driver for NForce4 Network Cards or Marvell Yukon Network Card which I have onboard. likeatiger
I just discovered that .dmg files won't mount with a Device Not Configured error so this is probably install related. SSE3 with XD. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9298-network-busted-in-1044/#findComment-58325 Share on other sites
jrrjrr
Try repairing permissions with the Disk Utility. Maxxuss has a note that broken SMB is a sign of bad permissions, and I know from Linux that correct permissions are essential for mounting and burning, etc. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9298-network-busted-in-1044/#findComment-58338 Share on other sites
mgoemmel
I've the same problem and "Repair disk permissions" will not change it. Also SMB will not work... any more ideas? Thanks a lot Markus Sorry, some more info on my machine: SSE3 Intel CPU, no NX, that's all. I copied the AC97, Network, SATA and AT kext from the 10.4.3, all other stuff is originally as the 10.4.5 is installing it. I did it exactly as described in Maxxuss update, first create a 10.4.4 from a running 10.4.3, then create a 10.4.5 from a running 10.4.3 over the new 10.4.4 Thanks again for helping Markus Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9298-network-busted-in-1044/#findComment-68621 Share on other sites
mgoemmel
By the way, is it normal that using "diskutil" always creates lots of output, even when it was started 1 minute ago and run successfully? I only know from Windows that running fdisk and then running fdisk again results in a totally quiet running. Looks like somethings went wrong with my installation, right?
