MaDT
My bluetooth is deactivated when I boot OS X. The Option to turn it on in Bluetoothpreferences is grey. Is there any possibility to turn in on via shellscript or something? ludacrisvp
I have the same problem. I did however notice that when you try to add a device it will prompt you to say that bluetooth is off and ask if you want to turn it on. SD Geek
It's not a pretty solution, but here's the answer I've found to work on three different systems I have setup... sudo rm /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist that's it... remove the file and reboot. I've noticed on my machines that this problem occurs while trying to pair with my BlackJack phone so I can use PAN networking. The pairing begins, runs into some error then appears to work OK. On reboot I get the grayed bluetooth icon and have to use Applications->Utilities->Bluetooth File Exchange to power-on the adapter. My guess is that the interrupted pairing in my case is causing the preferences file to become corrupted in some way which doesn't allow the bluetooth to startup as usual, but that's just a guess so it's probably not even close to what's really happening. GliTCH82
If you have a BT dongle with a button on it, try holding the button in AS YOU PLUG it into your machine and KEEP HOLDING IT for an additional 2 seconds. This swtiches the internal device ID of some devices that have a dual mode configuration for legacy keyboard/mouse compatibility with older BIOSes. This holds especially true for most Logitech MX desktop and DiNovo bluetooth dongles. ergosteur
I have a cheap bluetooth usb dongle from eBay. It used to work fine with leopard, but recently it started to be turned off at boot. I removed the plist as suggested above, but now there's no Bluetooth icon in system prefs. Also when I plug the dongle in, the menu bar bluetooth icon still shows as not available, and Bluetooth file exchange says "No Bluetooth hardware found".... The dongle still works fine on my iMac G3. Help please? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/92897-bluetooth-turned-off-after-boot/#findComment-953395 Share on other sites
