Libria
Hi! I've been trying to install the 10.5.2 AMD-EFI released by zephyroth on my other computer, and I somehow always end up with the same "_" blinking error, despite having tried several solutions proposed here on the forums. First of all here are my system specs: AMD Athlon x2 processor M2N-E SLI motherboard (firewire is disabled in bios by the way) NVidia Geforce 7600 GS video card 2 Gig memory SATA hard drive (this is where I am putting Leopard) IDE hard drive (windows XP is on this one) IDE hard drive (just for storage, its ntfs too) Here is what I did so far: Burned the DVD from the iso, worked well it passes the verification in the installation. Booted from the DVD, loads fine. Went to disk utility, formated the SATA hard drive to Mac OS X (journaled) with only 1 partition (named OSx86) I tried both GUID and MBR, MBR seems much faster or is it just me? Installed Leopard on the partition I just created Installation was succesful for both GUID and MBR (right now I have MBR installed, should it be GUID?) I restart, go back in the installation, open terminal and copy the mach_kernel from the DVD to my /Volumes/OSx86/ I chmod and chown the mach_kernel ***Am I supposed to do this too for NVinject, dsmos and AppleSMBIOS kext files too? Cant find them on the DVD... Then I want to install EFI so I did this: diskutil list (my hard drive with OSx86 on it shows up as disk 2, partition 1...this is weird because when I partitioned in the disk utility it was actually disk0s1. I should mention that my primary booting device is one of my IDE hard drives, that has windows on it, to boot on Leopard I press F8 as my M2N-E SLI motherboard image comes up and choose the SATA hard drive to boot from) so yeah, I unmount disk2s1, then I do the following: cd /usr/standalone/i386 ./startupfiletool -v /dev/disk2s1 ./boot_v8 (it works fine) reboot then I hit F8, -s I type in fdisk -e /dev/disk2s1 (this asks me if I want to intialize partition table or something like that, is that normal?) flag 1 update write quit reboot when it reboots, I take out the DVD from the drive, hit F8 to choose my sata hard drive to boot and I get the blinking _ I tried the GParted LiveCD thing to change the booting flag but when its supposed to display something graphic it shows up as a bunch of randomness on my monitor so I can not work with it. What did I do wrong? What did I miss? I really wanted to avoid posting, but I read and tried for countless hours and I just can't make it on my own :/ Am I even close to getting it to work? I know the blinking _ is not a new error, and I can't seem to get it to work... Thank you for your help! garikfox
I had the same problem. Fix: Non-AHCI mode. (Kalyway 10.5.2 Intel,GUID:EFI-GUID) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/92724-1052-amd-efi-blinking-_/#findComment-661397 Share on other sites
Libria
Hey! Thanks for the reply! Do you think you could provide me with a bit more information? What exactly is Non-AHCI mode? My processor is an AMD, are you sure Kalyway 10.5.2 Intel would work? Thanks again! garikfox
No, thats what I use because I have a Intel. Your doing fine. AHCI is a setting in your BIOS. Its how your SATA manages. If you see anything set in your BIOS to AHCI set it too IDE or etc. Maybe you shouldnt be installing this, hehee Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/92724-1052-amd-efi-blinking-_/#findComment-661410 Share on other sites
Libria
There is nothing in my BIOS that says AHCI, just verified. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/92724-1052-amd-efi-blinking-_/#findComment-661448 Share on other sites
