dennisgodderie
Well I'm now in this situation: C: Windows 30GB (NTFS) D: Data 30 GB (NTFS) Free space: 15GB I booted macos x86 from the DVD and started the installation. I went to disk utility, created a new (HFS+) partition in the Free space. Then it asked if I was sure... because creating that partition would erase two volumes (C and D). That can't be correct, I think? What should I do so that I could install macos correctly on that Free space and keep my Windows? Thanks! chex
try resizing to leave 6GB of free space and then create a partition in the unallocated space. jbjonas
I know that messing with OSX on non primary partitions can be messier... You might have to prep the partition in XP first. Unfortunately the instructions for that are in the wiki, which will hopefully be up again soon... dennisgodderie
chex, that's exactly what I did. This is what I have at this moment: http://users.telenet.be/godderie/partitions.JPG I tried with the Disk utility to create a new partition in the free space, but it formatted my xp and data partition too Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9259-what-kind-of-partition-for-macos-x86/#findComment-57774 Share on other sites
jbjonas
is it recoverable? if so then wait for the wiki to come back up and prep it in XP... if not, try making the OS X Partition, the First one on the drive, then reinstall XP on the remainder. You can also take this opportunity to make the new XP partition, or storage partition, or both FAT32, so you can have read & write support to them in OS X Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9259-what-kind-of-partition-for-macos-x86/#findComment-57788 Share on other sites
dennisgodderie
I had to reinstall my system (xp) and the screenshot is from how it is now I'm searching the forum, and they're speaking about a AF partition or something like that? I did try to first install MacOs on 15GB partition, 60 free... that worked perfectly. Then I installed windows xp on 30 GB of the 60 and also that worked. But it messed up the drive letters (not the biggest problem), but I could manage to make a dual boot (copy chain0 to the windows root and add chain=0 "Mac Os X" into the boot.ini... didn't worked Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9259-what-kind-of-partition-for-macos-x86/#findComment-57791 Share on other sites

dennisgodderie
I made pictures of the steps In windows, with partition magic my partitions look like this: http://users.telenet.be/godderie/partitions.JPG It's a primary, not extended unformatted space. Then I boot with the Mac Os X86 10.4.3 dvd installer and take the Disk Utilities menu. This is what it says: http://users.telenet.be/godderie/1.JPG So I chose a HFS+ partition and press the button "partitioneer". http://users.telenet.be/godderie/2.JPG Then it asks me if I would like to repartition the disk, but all data would get lost. I know my pictures are in dutch, but you'll know the screens probably http://users.telenet.be/godderie/3.JPG Until now, I haven't chose anything... So please could somebody help me out Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9259-what-kind-of-partition-for-macos-x86/#findComment-58000 Share on other sites

dennisgodderie
I found a way to make it work Now I have XP working and Mac on a second partition. I copied the chain0 to the root of my C:\ and edited the boot.ini file. When I reboot I can chose between Windows XP and Mac Os, but if I take Mac Os, it just get's back to the same choice. So it keeps repeating that... windows XP I do can take and boot...
