flemmyd
hi this is my first post here. first off, here are my comp specs: amd 3700+ (san diego core) OCed to about 2.68 ghz (ish) Asus A8N-SLI w/ 1014 bios 1 gig corsair ddr ram. 8800 GTS 512 2 pATA cd drives: LG-8184 (wii people know what it is) - dvd reader only PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-110D - DL dvd durner normally, i have windows boot off a SATA drive and have 2 pATA drives for data. but installing leopard, i used one of the pATA drives to install (the whole drive, no bootcamp or anything). i physically removed the two other drives so there wouldnt be any conflict. i used the version of leopard from discussed here http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=73524 (because i cant post the link to the file) anyway, i boot the leopard and everything seems nice. pick hdd, etc etc. when i go to customize, i remove the french lang pack and choose the new set of nvidia drivers (because i have the 8800 gts 512 and cant speak french) however, no matter what i do, the insall hangs RIGHT before the install finishes. normally the blue intall bad moves/slides; it doesnt anymore. the system isnt completely hung, i can still move the mouse around, although only on the borders (the white box with the actual install info kills the mouse cursor, but it can still move through it and appear on the other side unaffected, etc) to try to trouble shoot, i used some of the ideas in from here: http://osx86.thefreesuite.com/leo_amd.php basically, the steps dont seem to work for me. the ">>/usr/misc/script.sh Leoppard" command returns that there is no such file/directory (cant remember) typing "cpus=1" does nothing (my cpu is single-core anyway, will it do anything?) i cant disable speedstep (AMD proc, duh!) and the "-x" in the command line obviously doesnt solve my problem. after all of this, the install still hangs at about 99%. when i physically reboot my cmputer, the USB keyboard seems to die until the actual GUI of the install (or until windows loads, depends on HDD i plug in) and i cant get into the bios. ->this means i cant select the f8 when booting leopard, i hvae to wait until it gets into the GUI comes. any ideas? im not concerned with getting details to work (internet, certain resolutions, etc). i just want the thing to install and run. ill_omen
you know.. your issue seems to be a slight variation of what I'm experiencing One thing you could try, and that I've been trying too.. is to open up the Installer Log.. and just see why it crashes.. In reality, my Installer crashes 3 times during the entire install (which is sad) and the final time mine crashes is "less than a minute" while it attempts to close the installation and tamper with my disk.. The installer log (if you haven't already found it) is located in the Top menu under the last heading (Window - I think is it's name).. and then something about "installer Log"..
