Hi,

I found this video on youtube:

Which shows an install of OS X on an ASUS P5KC with an Intel Q6600. I assume you are the person who posted this, if not, then please disregard this message.

My question is, how did you get this to install? I have the exact same motherboard and processor and get an error message when trying to boot the install DVD (iATKOS 1.0i).

What hard drive did you install to? SATA or IDE using the jMicron controller? The exact error message I get is "/com.apple.Boot.plist not found". I would guess this is a hard drive error. I'm redownloading all the ISOs for iATKOS and I'm going to re burn everything just in case.

Also, did you have to do anything special to get the audio and the network card running or did it just work?

Thanks in advance.

These instructions are for iATKOS v1.0ir2.

The error message is because you have an IDE DVD-ROM hooked up to the JMB363 controller which is not supported fully by the IATKOS Install Disk. Get a SATA DVD-ROM or a SATA to IDE/ATAPI converter. An IDE addin card such as a Promise Ultra133 TX2 might also do the trick.

You need to install iATKOS either to a hard drive connected to the JMB363 or one of the two harddrives on the ICH9 Controller 1, ie SATA 1 or 2.

The built in Atheros NIC won't work at all AFAIK. Get a cheap RTL8139. Works in all weathers.

After installation follow these instructions to get ICH9 Controller 2 and the ALC883 to work.

ICH9 SATA (Vendor: 8086, Device ID: 2921 [Controller 1] & 2926 [Controller 2])

------------------------

1. Open terminal

# sudo su

# nano /System/Library/Extensions/IOATAFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext/Contents/Info.plist

Remove " 0x29268086" from the line:

<string>0x29218086 0x29268086</string>

to make it look like this:

<string>0x29218086</string>

Save and exit nano (Ctrl+o Ctrl+x).

# nano /System/Library/Extensions/AppleVIAATA.kext/Contents/Info.plist

Add "0x29268086 " to the line:

<string>0x2363197B 0x31491106 0x00e310de 0x005410de 0x005510de</string>

to make it look like this:

<string>0x29268086 0x2363197B 0x31491106 0x00e310de 0x005410de 0x005510de</string>

Save and exit nano (Ctrl+o Ctrl+x).

# rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

# rm /System/Library/Extensions/Caches/com.apple.kext.info

# kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions/

2. Reboot!

3. Set Intel ATA to Enhanced/IDE and JMicron to IDE in BIOS.

Realtek HD Audio ALC883 (Vendor: 10ec, Device ID: 0883)

------------------------

1. Download:

- AppleHDAPatcherv1.20.zip here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=32859

- 883_Asus_P5KC_codec_dump.txt here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=547910

2. Drag and drop the file 883_Asus_P5KC_codec_dump.txt on top of AppleHDAPatcherv1.20 and follow the instructions.

3. Reboot!

Awesome stuff, thanks again.

I've sorted through the most of it so far, I've got iATKOS ir2 installed however I keep having to boot off the DVD of a KALYWAY disc I have to get OS X running (just leave the dvd in and don't press any keys). I've tried to use the iATKOS v1.0 disc and install the boot loader under the Utilities menu but it doesn't seem to work/install with either the EFI emulation or just the x86 darwin bootloader, when I try to boot without having the DVD in I just get the blinking cursor.

I did go out and purchase a SATA dvd rom and all went well with the install, all that remains now is getting the bootloader properly installed, also can I just use GRUB or something similar to fix this?

I've also got a few issues with using NVinject on my video card (6800GS PCIx), I figured the most of it out by going in and editing the GeForce.kext, NVDANV40Hal.kext, and NVDAResman.kext as explained in this thread here: Link

So to wrap things up -

iATKOS v1.0 ir2 installed and almost fully working

SATA ports 3&4 not working yet, will try method above once I get home from work

Nvidia 6800GS fully working

Realtek HD Audio ALC883 Fully working

PCI Network card fully working

EFI or Darwin x86 bootloader NOT working (not installed)

The only other question I have would be about doing system updates. Under what conditions is it ok to do actual Apple issued system updates? It's not a big deal to me to do no updates at all but it keeps nagging me about them. I am talking about the 10.5.2 update.

The reason I ask is that I had KALYWAY installed and working 100% (including proper bootloader) and went to use the KAYLWAY 10.5.2 updater and it had a kernel panic in the middle of the update and then would not boot anymore (using -v you could see it saying something about Login window crashing IIRC)

I couldn't create a new topic because I'm a new member. That's why I decided to post a P5KC Guide to 10.5.7 Leopard iATKOS v7 installation here. Hope you won't mind.

GUIDE (or maybe I should say, the thing that worked for me)

As I successfully managed to install Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.8 on my HP 550 laptop, I figured out that it could work with my desktop computer as well (Dual boot with window 7, of course). Hope the information found here will be able to help someone.

Here are my specs:

-MAINBOARD: Asus P5KC

-CPU: Intel Quad Processor Q6600

-MEMORY: GEIL 2x1GB DDR2 800MHZ Dual-Channel

-OPTICAL DRIVE: Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-112D ATA Device

-AUDIO: Integrated audio

-GRAPHIC: Gainward GTX 260 216sp (works with QE/CI)

-DISPLAY: Samsung SyncMaster 223BW

-HARD DISK: WDC WD3200AAKS, SATA II

-WI-FI: TL-WN321G (USB, TP-Link)

-ETHERNET: Atheros L1 Gigabit Ethernet

What was used:

1) iATKOS v7 DVD

2) Atheros L1 Ethernet driver (it can be found on the internet, I used one from iPC 10.5.6 DVD)

4) Windows 7 DVD if you want Dual boot (I will not be explaining the dual boot procedure, just the installation process for Leopard)

Installation Process:

1) Boot from iAtkos v7 DVD

2) Using disk utility format the partition that you will be using for Leopard installation Mac OS Extended (Journaled) / HFS+)

3) Choose these options when customizing the installation (in the end, I realized that I am unsure if I checked some of these options or not): See the picture in the attachment (Installation.jpg)

post-530271-1268009749_thumb.jpg

4) Et Voilà. Note: Pioneer DVD is the only component that doesn’t work.

5) If you want to update to 10.5.8 you will need to boot from iATKOS v7 DVD again after restart and to select just the drivers. (you can find the details about the updating process by searching through insanelymac, for instance THIS LINK - of course, you will need to use different drivers than the ones described in this article)

After explaining the whole process I will describe ISSUES I had to overcome:

1) Firewire ISSUE (After disabling firewire, second issue came up)

2) Still waiting for root device ISSUE

Both ISSUES were solved by using Intel SATA/IDE found on iATKOS v7 DVD (if you followed the installation process you have already installed it)

THIS IS WHAT WORKED FOR ME. DON'T TRY ANY OF THIS IF YOU'RE NOT SURE ABOUT WHAT ARE YOU DOING :D

I Wish you Luck, because that is exactly what you need when trying to run this thing!

Whatever happens, don't end up like this  or this :( and certainly not like this

Take Care.
