dwbird
installed Darwin 8.01 then "restored" my operating 10.4.1 then after mv /var/db/netinfo/local.nidb /var/db/netinfo/local.nidb.bad rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone and rebooting normally, repairing permissions I find that the Users/me volume is read only and then I get info on it the system tells me the owner is "(unknown)" How do I change the ownership to make the volume R/W I tried to do it from the info panel in finder and it kept changing back. I also tried erasing free space and now the disk indicates that it is full. jbjonas
I had a similar problem a while back. I booted to the install DVD, then before installing, went to Disk Utility and did a 'Repair Disk Permissions' on my drive. Hope this helps Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9013-ownershippermissions/#findComment-56024 Share on other sites
dwbird
I reinstalled Darwin then restored the operating 10.4.1 image to it, and then repaired permissions, and that fixed the full disk issue, however the user files were still read only and would not allow me to change them. What I finally found that worked was to create a new user with admin priveleges and then log in under the new user and delete the old user. Now have 10.4.1 running on a 60 gig partition and have another 60 gig partition available for data. Thanks for the help.
