SuperNet33
What does the new speedstep kernel really do? What will it do for my system? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/89769-what-does-the-new-speedstep-kernel-really-do/ Share on other sites
ricki
basically nothing, i tried it before doing a re-instal... the whole was like a snail, so this time i only did the combo and graphic update but kept the old kernel. inedible
I'm assuming it fixes a problem with speedstep, which is a feature found on mobile intel processors which lets the system slow down the processor to save battery when it's not being used. Problem is, osx would not detect this and would always run at the lowest speed. My core duo 1.73ghz was running at 800mhz on one of the installations I tried. I assume it fixes that.
