scalar
Recently I built an 8 core Xeon box using 2 harpertown (same core as penryn) cpu's, 8gb of ddr2 fb-dimms and an eVGA 8800GT. I had more success with the Kalyway 10.5.1 than my older JaS 10.4.8, and since I had intended to use Leo anyway for the up-to-date support for the nvidia 8x00's, it was nice to find that things are a bit easier with OSX86 these days. Once installed I was working on getting Kalyway 10.5.1 updated to 10.5.2 manually, when I noticed the thread on the Kalyway 10.5.2 update patcher. That & the 10.5.2 kernel patcher made this probably the easiest OSX86 update I've done: After that I did the apple graphics update and my eVGA 8800GT 512mb still wasn't recognized so I did a bit of searching (duh). This fellow got his (the exact same card) to work by editing strings manually but since I was fiddling with this between client calls I just took the easy way out and used NVInstallerV.33. I had used the mbr option from the Kalyway original install iso, not guid (since Xp64 is already installed on that drive) and wasn't sure if PCEFI was installed as I've only spent this afternoon working on this so far. In any case NVInstaller still gave me "Hardware Accelerated" for CI and "Supported" for QE/Rotation so I'm happy for now...almost: The only thing that I've yet to have success with is my 2 onboard Intel 82575 EB Gigabit Lan adaptors. I did find one other thread where the poster had the 82575 and mentioned he 'fixed' his issues by getting a separate PCI NIC card, but I'd rather avoid that myself since I've already got 2 good Lan ports onboard. The device id in windows shows: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_10A7&SUBSYS_10A715D9&REV_02\4&187919FE&0&00E0 which means in the .plist the correct string would be 0x10A78086. For my previous Intel NICs I've gotten them to work by editing IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleIntel8255x.kext/Contents/Info.plist and adding their device id's, but that didn't work this time. So... any ideas? I have a thread going in the hardware section or answer here if you have any ideas. Guest spideydouble
scaler: can you let me know if/when you get the intel 82575 working? I am waiting to jump on the OSX86 wagon for Final Cut Studio 2. Like you, I am running a X7DWA-N based dual Xeon quad (E5462) box and a separate PCI NIC card is not a good fix. Someone else on these forums said that the NIC issue could be a problem for running FC. I also am looking to run an NV GTX 280 or a PC based version of the Quadro FX 4500. Is this a pipe dream? mind_bomb
Hi , I also used same motherboard for my setup with 8800 GT for lan I end up going with Netgear 311 card I had it handy and it works OOB for me . For sound I end up getting Creative Labs X-Fi USB system also was just to tirer to get the alc 883 to work . Now with the 8800 GT on Nvinject after upgrading to 10.5.5 I lost QE, after many tries i deleted nviject.kext and it was back to fully supported again.
