So I am a mac user and I own a macbook pro and love it. Although I'd like something smaller and lighter for traveling (not a replacement, just a second machine). So I have been looking into some used ultra portables, and while the specs seem reasonable I know I wouldn't be happy using windows, and the price of the macbook air is more than I'd like to spend for a machine that doesn't quite fit my needs. There are plenty of reasonably specced ultra portables on the used market for $200-$300, so maybe I could make one of those work? Does anyone know about compatibility with osx86 on ibm x31 laptops? Or similar ultra portables?

Thanks for any help!

Hi Gnar ... I've been pretty happy with either the Dell 1505 (audio doesn't work w/ 10.4), or my newer Lenovo X60 (everything works except IRDA and 802.11) --- to fix the latter I just picked up a MacSense Aerolite+ and downloaded the drivers from mfg. I heard that it's possible to replace the internal 3945 with an Atheros, but I haven't been able to find and test one yet.

Good luck!
