ForTiLLiaN
Im looking to build a machine for video production. The 2 processors im looking at are the Pentium D 930 and the Amd X2 4200. I will mostly be using Final Cut Pro, and some audio software. Also i need to know what is the easiest board to install with. I will be bringing over my Nvidia 6800GT which is currently AGP but i can trade it in for a PCI card. kikos
for obvious reasons i'd go with the intel. and you're gonna have problems doing video production using an nvidia card until it's got some drivers. search the boards and look at the wiki. ForTiLLiaN
Obvious reasons to go with intel? I dont know them. From the pc world the AMD processor would be a faster chip but, im not sure if MAC being made for intel is actually better in this situation, as long as the CPU supports SSE3. Also, why is the mac a Intel Duo 1.83, but all the Intel chips i see to purchase are Duo 2.8 and 3.0. Why is it clocked lower then all the others? wesley
The Core Duo iMacs are clocked 1.83GHz or 2.0GHz. The fastest Core Duo processor currently available is 2.16GHz (T2600). Obvious reasons are... obvious. Driver and processor support are better for Intel platform on OSX86 than AMD because they are closer to Apple hardware. Dual core AMD processors currently have stuttering problem with OSX86 (it happened all the way back in 10.4.1 and still is observed in 10.4.3 8f1111a), and as of yet the only sure-fire way of working around this problem is disabling one of the cores. The idlehalt=0 / fn=3 settings are not met with much success in many systems. If you're going to build a system just to use OSX86 as the main OS, then it is, in fact obvious you'll want to build an Intel system. Mind you, I use an Athlon 64 X2 system to run OSX86. There's a good reason why I'm telling you like this. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/8944-amd-or-intel/#findComment-55685 Share on other sites
ForTiLLiaN
So what is the difference in the Core Duo 1.8Ghz, and a Pentium D 930 clocked at 3.0Ghz? And how do they relate in the apple world? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/8944-amd-or-intel/#findComment-55739 Share on other sites
Patogocho
Sorry, but if you think build a pro machine to use FCP are you grong, OSX works great for office and home tasks but is not the best way for pro applications. if you builds a mactel workstation for video editing you'll obntain the same results that you'll make a PC Workstation with Premiere Pro. I Have a G5 2.7 Power PC Dual with 2.0 GB Ram and works fast and fine, but my Dell Presicion 650 with Xeon 3.0 Dual and 2GB Ram and Matrox RT Xtreme acelerator card with Premire Pro 1.5 crash and Hangs every time. My mac never betray me. so is better wait for the pro gamma of macs with Conroe. RIGHT NOW INTEL PRESENTS A chip with 4 Cores.
