dado2i
Hi to all, I would like to share my experience regarding the installation of the great Zephyroth 10.5.1 AMD release. Link on zephyroth forum here http://osx.kbot.de/ . first of all.. the hardware: Acer Aspire 5101 AWLMI (AMD Turion64@2GHz CPU , 1GB RAM, 110GB HD, ATI Radeon Xpress 1100M card , Atheros 5005 WiFi card, LAN : Realtek RTL8139 ) then, i did in this way: I) first of all i have xp installed on my laptop and wanted a dual boot system. I choose OS selector (@cr0nis) and installed it. It's important to have a boot manager as also EASYBCD or another working solution for booting (you can search on the forum). Please have clear ideas on that. a)download the torrent b)before installation go to this thread: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;#entry635699 and download the files. extract the zip to a USB pen drive. (root) c) then follow the instruction taken from the Zephiroth Mac OS X 10.5.1 AMD Install Guide by pcmanthinker http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...=85573&st=0 follow step 1 trought 17 1. Download Zephiroth's Mac OS X 10.5.1 AMD torrent if you haven't already 2. Extract all parts of the included rar files by opening the first and selecting extract 3. Burn the extracted ISO to a DVD with Nero Burning Rom at maximum speed(I used version 7.9) 4. Format your Mac install partition as FAT32 otherwise the installer won't see it - make sure the drive you install to has an IDE interface 5. Restart and set your boot device to your CD/DVD-ROM drive 6. Let the Darwin bootloader start without any options (It will take about 5 or minutes to load the Mac OS X installer) 7. When you are loaded into the installer, select your language and click next 8. After you get to the next screen, go to the Utilities menu and select Disk Utility 9. Create and format a mac volume on your destination disk and label it "Leopard" 10. Exit Disk Utility 11. Click Next on the OS X installer 12. Click Customize and uncheck everything (you must make sure they are all unchecked or the installer will hang trying to install them) 13. First uncheck extra fonts and then expand the languages option and uncheck French 14. Proceed with unchecking everything 15. Click OK 16. Now click Install 17. Mac will now install (it will take about an hour to completely install) d) if the installation stops at "about one minute" (the blue bar stops) don't worry, it's normal, reboot with the dvd and then continue the previous installation. this time: don't open Disk Utility, and click next till you are asked to select the Hard Disk. Choose Leopard and then Customize, unchecking everything as before. Then OK and then Install. At the end of installation you'll be asked to reboot. e)if the installation doesn't stop then you reboot f) boot with USB key or drive and installation DVD inserted g)you don't want to start osx, because we need to install the driver. so start from DVD h)when the installation program has loaded as before go to Utilities/terminal I)execute the following instructions (taken from http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=85960&st=0&gopid=635699entry635699 - Great post -SKG- thanks) cp -Rf /Volumes/Your_PenDrive/ApplePS2Controller.kext /Volumes/Your_Mac_HD/System/Library/Extensions/ApplePS2Controller.kext touch /Volumes/Your_Mac_HD/System/Extensions/ chmod -R 755 /Volumes/Your_Mac_HD/System/Extensions/ chown -R root:wheel /Volumes/Your_Mac_HD/System/Extensions/[/size] (In my case i don't install the other drivers now, otherwise i can't get my atherios wi-fi working..) exit from terminal l) reboot and now start the OSX! (of course you choose it with the os selector) When asked for the activation simply skip the step with alt-q or windows-q or ctrl -q (i dont remember exactly, sorry..) m) then install the attached file IO80211Family.kext (sorry file attachement on the forum doesn't work, so i uploaded it here http://upload2.net/page/download/BRkBqw8TW....kext.zip.html) (thanks Countercraft). To install it you need to unzip it and then i like using the Kext helper utility (download it, its really useful). simply drag and drop the file into it, put your password and click easy install n) reboot and you should see an empty symbol on the top bar (this means that your card has been seen) an then go to system preferences - network ant follow this method made by Bc909 (GREAT!) taken here http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...0317&st=180 "and on boot you will get the empty pie icon on the top bar. Finally I stumbled on a way to get it powered on, and I'm not totally clear on why. BUT I've done this 4 times now, and that's enough for me. You think the terminal will come to the rescue. but NO. For some reason it didn't enable the device when I issued commands in /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Versions/Current/Resources/airport believe it or not it's the GUI wireless setup assistant. This is what I did to turn on my wireless each time, and for whatever reason if you don't have the ethernet cable connected it didn't work for me. 1. Connect to network via Ethernet cable. 2. Go to Network in System Preferences (make sure there is a green light in Ethernet). 3. Select AirPort and under the gear icon dropdown choose Make Service Inactive. 4. Hit the plus and add a new AirPort service (Airport 2 or whatever). 5. Hit the 'Assit me...' button 6. Then 'Assistant' then 'Continue' then check I use Airport, then 'Continue' then it asks to turn on the Airport. 7. After a few moments, the new service turned on the card and found all the networks in my area. 8. Delete the first airport connection. " Wi-fi work great except for WPA o) now you can install the other drivers as listed by -SkG- "Now we are going to install some drivers: * Audio: ALC883Audio.mpkg or Azalia_audio.pkg: With the first one don't works with the speakers, only wit headphone. With the second one don't work audio input. (I have the second one) * AppleACPIPlatform.pkg and Power_Management.pkg: ACPI and Battery. * Callisto.kext and CallistoHAL.kext they are from Callisto v003 but they are already patched for ATI Radeon XPRESS 200M/x1100 (No QE, Software CI) Drag and Drop them to Kext Helper, put your password and click on "EASY INSTALL". * IOPCCardFamily.kext and IOPCIFamily.kext: PCMCIA controller. Drag and Drop them to Kext Helper, put your password and click on "EASY INSTALL"." I personally used Azalia and insalled all the others except the last point (PCMCIA) since i don't need it. Then you can change the resolution on System preferences- displays and you should see the 1280x800 - choose it! Unluckily there's no support for the ATI 1100. There isn't a proper driver that can enable QE/CI and so make the most interesting applications to work. Thanks to Zephyroth, -Skg- , pcmanthinker, Countercraft and Bc909 (how did you have that idea? ) Enjoy the Mac! ISSUES * No QE CI * Camera detected as USB Camera but not working. * Card reader don't work. * Modem don't works. I've tried to install the 10.5.2 , but it doesn't work.. anyone had a success on that?
