As the topic title/description says, I can't get bootcamp to create a single partition on an empty disk for windows to install to

It's supposed to create a partition called "BOOTCAMP" which you then install windows to, however this is not created.

It works when creating a second partition on the primary disk, but I don't really want to do that, any suggestions?

Since it's an empty disk, how about just setting it up and partitioning with Disk Utility? Make sure you set it up as MBR, of course...

Or you might even be able to just boot the Windows CD/DVD and partition from Windows Setup (again, you're using an empty disk).

i ended up just using disk utility to format it as MBR, and that's worked fine - windows vista setup fails at formatting drives properly, so that wasn't an option though
