Kernal Panic ati X19x0 problem with new install of kalyway 10.5.1

Kalyway 10.5.1

Asrock ConroeXfire esata2

1 gig ram

Core 2 DuoE6600

IDE hdd (master) and IDE benq DVD (slave)

ATI X1950 Pro 256mb Power color

OK, so I have installed successfully OSX onto the HDD, selecting all the vanilla options, the ATI 19x0 kexts and the mbr efi.

It boots into OSX, shows the apple, and then a grey screen asking me to reboot my computer by pressing the power button.

I have tried with and without the ATI 19x0 injects but I still fail with something similar to the following:

Kernal Panic com.Apple.atiradeonX1000(5.1.8) or com.appleatiradeonX19x0

How can I either force it to be a X1950 or just load as a GMA950 so that I can install other ati drivers?. I can't get past this point to do anything else.

If I try using -s then i get the following:

single user boot - fsck not done

root device is mounted read only.

Thankyou

I have the same problem with P35-DS3R and PowerColor X1950 Pro 256MB but I could boot into safe boot by typing -x

any suggestion how we can solve this?

I have an Asus P5K Deluxe and I had the same issue with a 8800GT and a Q6600.

1) In my case GUID would not work. I had to partition as MBR.

2) The BIOS settings are key as well

3) This post was super helpful.

I found that by stripping down the install to just the kernel and and appropriate GUID or MBR bootstrap the chance of a kernel panic was less.

Drop the graphics driver and see if the install goes through. You will at least get 1068x720 or whatever which is good enough for a start.

I will post all BIOS settings for the P5K deluxe later today.
