Hello all would realy appriciate help regarding my problem, just can't seem to install and plus all that need to reinstall XP everytime I try installing OSX.

Ok, I have 3 Primary partitions for OS - C: XP32 D: XP64 E: OSX 10.4.3

Now, i've changed E: to active and booted to install the latest 10.4.3 (already patched) version.

Problem is OSX doesn't see any of my hard drives and when I reboot I can't log back to my XP installation (even when using fdisk to change back C: to active).

I guess it has something to do with the HFS file system - I partitiond E: as NTFS - right?!

Plus, why the hell do I need to reinstall windows after this unsuccessful installation...?

PC Configuration:

AMD X2 4400+

2 GB RAM

Gigabyte K8NS ULTRA 939

Cheers guys, and all of you, YOU ROCK!!!! This is by far the best project for PC i've ever seen!!! ;)

Not sure why you need to reinstall XP; if the OSX installer isn't doing anything it shouldn't damage your XP installation but maybe I'm missing something. I'm assuming you really have individual partitions, not just logical partitions inside a Windows partition? Logical partitions won't work. Also, forget using RAID unless it's done with dedicated hardware. Soft RAID won't work and trying to install to that could well screw up your original OS because OSX doesn't understand it and will write to one disk, not the set.

NTFS is not the right type of partition for OSX. You want to set your OSX partition to type 'AF'. Alternatively, leave it as raw space and let the OSX installer prepare it. The fundamental issue with any pre-used disk is that the OSX installer won't recognise it as suitable for installation until you prepare it. Use the "Disk Utility" option on the top menu bar at an early stage in the installation, like when it can't see any disk.

There is a lot of information on dual booting and disk prep on the forum and the Wiki - try the search function. I know it's a pain to trawl through all that info but it's there somewhere! Good luck.

issue 1: afaik your mobo got nforce sata controller and it's not supported atm so if you got sata hdd they will never be seen by osx

issue 2: i bet that macosX installation modifies the master boot record (mbr) so it's normal that you can't boot win XP but it's not damaged!!!

just fix the XP mbr:

first set the xp partition as active

boot a win xp cdrom> go in recovery console.

type in: fixmbr (if i mind well, if not type help and look for something similar)

now all should work again

to boot into macosX use the chain0 trick look at wiki pages for more info

bye

Guys, thanks alot for the replies. I couldn't wait so I searched the forum and found out (what you just said 'Lord_muad') that the osx would not see my sata drivers, so I went and installed my IDE drive and now it works fine!)

So cheers mates, thanks alot for the help, problem solved

Only one thing I've got to ask since i'm here.

I'm running X2 4400+ which has SSE3, how can I disable the Darwin thing so that it won't simulate sse3 and use my real sse3?

Cheers and thanks again, Yoav
