Hi guys,

I dunno if any of u guys got the same problem when installing Kalyway as me, but when i get to the disk utility part, my 200gig HDD is shown only as 128gig ???WTF!!! I have Windows XP on my other HDD 250gig and when i go to disk manager, it shows that the disk with Leopard on it has 58gig of unpartitioned space. Any ideas as to how to get those 58gigs back???

I've got Kalyway installed now and working on 10.5.1, the only thing not working is my 8800GT - can't download the update yet cos i went over my usage limit lol.

My Specs:

Gigabyte 965PS3 v3.3 (F12)

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600

Gigabyte 8800GT 512mb turbo

2gig 667mhz ram

Maxtor 200gig sata hdd

WD 250gig sata hdd

asus sata dvd burner

External My Book Essential 500gig for random stuff like porno games and Timemachine

I have a system based on rev. 3.3 of the same motherboard and no matter what I do I cannot get the installer program to even begin to load. The bios is F13i

My intention is to create a dual boot system based on -

2 Seagate 320GB SATA HDDs with Vista on one drive and OS X on the other.

Pioneer DVR-212BK (SATA) DVD-R/RW

8600GT graphics

I have used the BIOS settings which I think are correct judging from the posts in this thread and have tried the DVD drive plugged into each of the SATA sockets on the mobo but to no avail. I have also tried booting from an external DVD rom via. a USB port but no luck there either (the extrernal drive is a Pioneer DVR-212BK also but in an external case). I'm wondering if the DVD drives are compatible really...

The disk I have has a copy of kalyway_leo_10.5.1.iso ... I have used this disk to boot to the install page on my real Mac but did not install it on that machine as it's happily running Tiger a.t.m.

I have the following BIOS settings at the moment -

In the Integrated Peripherals page -

SATA AHCI Mode - AHCI

SATA Port 0-1 Native Mode - Disabled (but have also tried Enabled)

Onboard SATA/IDE Device - Enabled

Onboard SATA/IDE Control Mode - IDE

Are these the only BIOS settings I need to worry about?

Please help as I am a bit of a noob too...

Thanks in advance,

- Anthony.

p.s. Sorry if this is a duplicate post - I made an earlier post that I'm unsure of whether it disappeared into the ether or not.

I believe your BIOS settings look correct. I think the issue is with your DVD drive being a SATA drive. Mine is IDE and it works fine. If I set the SATA Native mode to anything but IDE then it won't boot from the drive. So I think it has something to do with the DVD drive being a SATA. Do you have any DVD IDE drives hanging around?

Firstly, thanks Powaking for responding.

I dug out an old DVD ROM drive I have (Samsung SM-332) that is an IDE drive. I set the boot sequence to boot from this drive first. However, I cannot get the kalyway disc to boot in this drive either. I retried using a Vista DVD in the same drive and it begins to install with no problems. Beginning to think it's either a bad kalyway disc (although as I said in my previous post it I can get it to at least the initial installation screen on my real Mac) or the drive is a bit old and is having problems reading the burnt DVD (the Vista DVD I'd tried earlier was a legitimate OEM version)...

I am confused...

;)

More news as it comes to hand,

- Anthony.

Good thought, Powaking.

I took the old drive and installed it in another computer running Windows - in that computer it has no problems showing the file (although it cannot be opened in Windows anyway so it doesn't mean alot). That does not mean it isn't having problems reading it I guess. So I will try burning another copy on the slowest speed - the first I did was on a faster speed so maybe you're onto something.

Before I do, however I want to know exactly where in the drive to put the file to make the DVD bootable (I told you I was a noob). On the first DVD I had the .iso file in the first (root?) directory (i.e not within a folder on the DVD) by itself on the DVD with no other files - is this correct? Do I need other files? Also, does it matter what name the DVD itself is or does it have to be a specific name? Lastly, I burnt the first DVD on a Mac - should I have done it on a Windows machine?

Thanks for your eternal patience..

- Anthony.

Powaking - I have the SATA HDD plugged into the top orange port that is not adjacent to the purple ones - I have Vista on one HDD (which I've unplugged) and the other is blank (the one still plugged in)... Both the other SATA DVD drives are unplugged and the IDE DVD drive is in the IDE port of the mobo..

I have made progress though - I reburnt the DVD at a slower speed and am now getting to the initial install option screen but no further... I'm getting to the screen in which you press enter to install Darwin/x86 with no options, -v to get diagostic messages or ? to learn of advanced startup options... The only problem is now I can't type anything (no response) - either the thing is hanging or my keyboard (just a normal wired USB one) is not playing ball...

Regards,

- Anthony.

Hmm well I do have a wireless keyboard/mouse combo by Logitech but the receiver is plugged into the keyboard port so not sure if that would count. Once it boots up and you get that menu it should only count down a few seconds then continue to bootup normally. I'm wondering if it has something to do with your sata dvd drive. Curious to see if you would have any better luck with an IDE DVD drive.

I've also reset my BIOS settings to default then played around with them afterwards. Might want to try that.

Powaking - that was using the IDE DVD drive... The only SATA device is one blank HDD plugged into one of the orange SATA ports... The other stuff was diconnected

Will try the BIOS as suggested...

Thanks for your help so far -

Thanks Powaking for your help....

Well I'm getting very close now - have Vista on one HDD and Leopard on the other... Have got video, internet / networking and the line out working but cannot boot into Leopard without the DVD in the drive - any ideas how to make this drive bootable? The Vista drive boots OK...

Also, is there a way to hide the drive that Vista is on when in Leopard?

TO dual boot you can either use EasyBCD to add an entry for Leopard in Vista's boot loader or make the Leopard partition Active which will show Windows partition and add it to the Darwin bootloader. By default Leopard will boot. If you want to boot into windows then you need to cancel the countdown and select Windows. Even if you use EasyBCD when you select Leopard from Vista's bootloader you will still need to select Leopard from the Darwin bootloader. The Darwin bootloader will make the default selection of the partition that is set as active.

There are tutorials around to make which partition active.

Excellent. Now just enjoy Leopard. Also read up on how to update to 10.5.2 correctly. I haven't done the latest Time Machine update myself (don't have a need for it) but I do have a few Linkstations kicking around and would be nice to be able to save backups to them.

My procedure for installing on a 965P-DS3 was as follows...

I set up a single partition, Mac OS Extended Journaled.

Set the partition scheme to GUID

Then I formatted.

Booted Kalyway 10.5.1, all the way through to Customise and selected vanilla kernel, vanilla acpi fix, azalia out, boot efi guid and then install.

Once it had done its stuff, I used the Kalyway combo update 10.5.2 disk and ran the update.

I ran a repair permissions on the disk, rebooted and then installed the kalyway_10.5.2_kernels.mpkg package, choosing vanilla kernel.

After that, I ran system update which went through OK having selected all the options available to me.

My sata hard drive is in a purple connector and my sata dvd drive is in a yellow connector.

I've since installed all updates that I've been offered through Software Update.

My only issue is that sometimes when I shut down, everything appears to close down but the fans are still running and I have to manually switch the PC off, and if I drop into sleep mode, it all goes off but then after a few seconds restarts and ends up with a black screen. It would be nice to be able to sleep the system but I can live with this.

I've also undone the Kalyway customisations by running the "Restore_Factory_Desktop_settings" fix so I no longer have the nasty orange background in Finder.

I know this thead is a bit old but I thought I'd share my results.

I installed the RETAIL version of OSX 10.5 on my GA-965-S3....that's right 965-S3.

NOT ONLY THAT BUT....It's setup in a raid!!!!!

I have 2 500gb WD sataII drives and they are configured in a software array. My Xbench disc score jumped from 59 to 141!!!!

I updated from 10.5.0 straight to 10.5.4 with NO UPDATE FIXING CRACK OR {censored}.

Here's the guide I made if you're interested. Big thanks to Karakeeha1 for his great guide that got me started!!!

Here's my guide : http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=119404

It's under construction but I'll get it updated with pics soon.

Well, I recently upgraded my hard drives and now have a 200GB Seagate SATAII and a Western Digital Raptor(36.7GB) plus an additional 100GB SATAII Western Digital. Still using my PATA NEC DVD-RW and 4GB DDR2 6400 as listed in my sig.

I am still trying to dual boot Vista Ultimate and OS X, but for the life of me I cannot get it to work. I screw up the MBR everytime I try. What I did this time was make 2 partitions on the 200GB drive(1 for OSX and 1 for Linux) then I will install Vista on my Raptor and use an OS selection tool to make em work.

Wish me luck!

Does anybody seen an boot-123 image for the GA-965P-S3?

I played a lot with my installation, so I don't know exactly what I'm changed, that would be a good help and I could test boot-123 without spedning a whole day for making the iso.

Can anybody help?
