Hi all,

After weeks of reading this forum, I've finally done it. :D

I was able to install OS X x86 natively onto my self built system.

I'll post my system components later.

But here's how I did it.

One Note: I did all of my prep. work on a PPC Mac G4.

I was having trouble loading the DVD install disc. Kept getting the debugger panic and the "You need to restart . . . in four dif. languages". Nothing new here.

I thought maybe that it was because I hadn't checked the md5s. Not the case at all.

I built the system based on a parts list I compiled from the forum where everyone had listed being able to install natively.

My problem was with the hard drive I was trying to install to. It had an old Win2000 system on it from eons ago. I later read on the forum that x86 didn't really like to try and install on to an already occupied hd.

So I zeroed out the hd on my Mac, then reinstalled it into my self built system. Restarted with the x86 DVD in the drive and then got a message telling me that there wasn't a bootable configuration.

:D Then I got to thinking, and I did some more reading and found and aquired a copy of the Darwin x86 Install CD. I figured that since OS X ran on Darwin that maybe it had to be installed prior to the OS X install. Kind of like Dos for Windows.

Crossing my fingers I popped the cd in, I actually thought it would be a long shot. More errors and then something happened. I got it to install Darwin.

I rebooted the system with the OS X x86 DVD patched with Jas patch, and crossed my fingers again. Holy Mac in a box Batman! It worked! :censored2:

No panics and no "Restart" screen. Before installing I wanted to make sure everything was good and proper for the install. So I used Disk Utility and zeroed out the hd again. Then I went back to the install screen and we were flyin'. It took exactly 30 minutes for the full install. After that it rebooted, I then repaired the permissions, and vuallah!

Check back later, as I will post a link to where you can get the Darwin Install CD, and my system specs.

Now to run Xbench to see what speed I'm at. Visually it's "Amazingly Fast"

P.S. Loading the Darwin thing was a little confusing, now that I know what to do, all you need to do is ask and I'ld be glad to help. :D

And one last question for you all. I'ld love to post pics of my Hackintosh. What's the best way to do that, can I post directly to the forum posts?

And thanks for everyones help.

O.K. as promised here is the link to where you can aquire the Darwin x86 Install CD.

http://mirror.services.wisc.edu/mirrors/ap...n/darwin/8.0.1/

You can download either a cdr image or an iso. Which ever works for you. I used the iso, mounted it with Toast and then used the Copy option to burn to a CD.

Later,
