Hello There

I have my Dell D600 working great with 10.4.3 8f1111 DVD Install, Airport works using MiniPci 1300, BCM5701 works, but I have an issue that I still not able to fix:

1- When I start the system on Battery, is very slow

2- If system is working on A/C external works great, but if I removed A/C power goes slow again.

The only way to restore speed is rebooting and having it on A/C power before system starts.

One thing is good, have Laptop with Mac OSX 10.4.3, but also be able to use it on battery!

Any help is appreciated.

BTW: Console logs does not show any problems when removing A/C

Hello

Finally I found out what was wrong with my D600, the problem was on the BIOS setup, I'm using Bios Version A16, I start playing with some options and i found one that causes the problem:

Item: Adapter Waringns: Must be enabled

The above item was disable, as soon I enabled it all problems running on battery gone, now I have a fast 10.4.3 when running on battery.

Good Luck! :D

Hello Marine

Thank you for your comments, I tested, I disabled this feature and noticed that my D600 start working slow, not that slow than before but slower than having it enabled, the reason I beleive is because this way the system configures the CPU to the lower performance without allowing the OS to make speed changes.

My Test:

SpeedStep: Disabled = Lower performance, Photoshop CS opens in 65 Seconds

SpeedStep: Enabled = Better performance, same applications opens just in 25 seconds

Also I tested the MAC OSX power management, I'm able to configured to runs with "Better Performance" when using Battery without problems, but when SpeedStep is disabled you can not make changes from the OS, system CPU is working on lower performance possible.

Thank you

  • 6 months later...

My laptop also rus slow on battery, it's a SONY VGN-A290 with a crippled bios, so I can't change speedstep, anyone have any options. It's only if I start on battery power is it slow, even if I put in AC it is still slow. However if I start on AC and then unplug it runs fast.

any ideas?

I got it figured out... I installed ACPICPUTHROTTLE, as it turns out my cpu is set to 600mhz by the bios on boot if no ac is detected. so once the kext is loaded is jumps to 1200 and then steps up to 1700 under load, but thanks.
