babybird
I successfully installed OSX Tiger 10.4.8 (JAS 10.4.8 SSE2) on my Dell Dimension 2400 and upgraded to 10.4.9 following the guide on this forum. I have been reading through the forums here for a few hours and a lot of people seem to have newer computers for this kind of thing. I found a way to get my built in ethernet card to work fine. At first OSX would not see it at all. At the time I was using an Nvidia PCI card that a friend let me borrow. My built in video card would not work at all. Everything would show up as grey and very pixelated. Nothing was readable at all. So now I am back to to this problem because my friend took his video card back. I was hoping someone here could point to a link where I could purchase a PCI video card that is compatible with OSX86 and is not too expensive. I can spend maybe $30 at most. I don't need the kind that are found at Best Buy or Walmart, those seem to be for gamers and are way too expensive. I don't play games at all or watch Hi-Def vidoes on my PC. I just want something that will for sure work once I install it and can allow me to watch videos on YouTube and use Expose without any issues. Here are the specs to my computer Intel Celeron 2.4 GHz processor, 400Mhz FSB (100MHzx4) Intel 845GV chipset Integrated Intel Extreme graphics Integrated Soundmax Sound 256MB PC-2700 DDR memory (one module) Integrated 10/100 Ethernet Seagate Barracuda 40GB ATA/100 7200RPM hard drive Hitachi 48X CD-ROM drive 19" Dell brand M992 monitor (max 1600x1200 @ 75Hz, .24 Dot pitch) I hope someone can please respond to my question. Once I get home I am without a fully working computer. On another note Not as urgent as my main concern. My internet provider might end up being Comcast. I was told that their modem is not compatible with OSX. I am not sure why. They wouldn't explain to me. Does anyone else here use Comcast? Did you have any issues with using Comcast for internet with your OSX86 computer?? Yaris
I am using the exact same computer but it has a P4. I couldn't use the integrated graphics so I bought an FX5200 on Newegg. It was $52, though, but it works perfectly. I think you're gonna want to put some more RAM in. I'm using 1GB. I also use comcast and it wirks fine. I'm not sure if the modem works with OS X, but I use WiFi. babybird
That is a bit too expensive for me too afford. Is there something that is at the minimum $30? This is one that I found on newegg that seems more in my price range http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...82E16814121019R I am just not sure if it would work with OSX. I agree I need to put more memory in my PC. Though it does seem to work much speedier than when I had Windows XP installed on it. I don't have a wireless card installed in my computer. So wireless isn't an option for me. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/87884-which-video-card-to-use/#findComment-628055 Share on other sites
