strangegrey
Hey folks, I'm in the process of assembling a parts list for a Leopard build. I've been reading for a few weeks now and it appears that the most stable systems are built off of the Intel Bad Axe 2 Mobo's. The drawback is that the 65nm processors have to be used for this mobo...and the 65nm chips appear to be more expensive. The e8400 processor is a real bargain right now. I can grab one locally for 190 bucks. It's a 3 ghz chip with 6mb of cache. but it's 45nm. It seems that the only real game in town for this CPU is to use the Gigabyte P35 boards. Regardless, a Gigabyte P35 board with an E8400 cpu will come out to close to a $200 savings over a badaxe2 + an E6600 or Q6600. What do you guys think? Do any of you guys forsee any issues while using a P35 board with a 45nm cpu??? should I expect similar compatibility to the tested Intel Bad Axe2/E6600 (or Q6600)? S.SubZero
The P35 might need an extra kext (I see the ICH9R kext mentioned in iATKOS 1.0r2 as an addon) but the Penryn itself should be fine. I have a new laptop with the T9300 Penryn 2.5Ghz and OS X seems to like it, tho "About this Mac" shows it as Unknown.
