Explicit
There is this strange thing I've noticed while running for example webcam/weather widgets in dashboard. They keep connected to their servers while dashboard is minimized? That's weird cause some widgets will slow down your Internet connection a bit so what's the use of this? Is there is cure for this strange behaviour? Like for example a script/tool that lets the widgets only connect to their servers when I'm actually using dashboard? Thx. Explicit
Doesn't anyone agree that this is something weird? While you are not using dashboard the widgets are still eating bandwidth. Strange I dont get any responce on this. Am I the only one dealing with this problem? Headrush69
Maybe you should isolate the widgets and see if it a specific widget doing this. I know some I've used will work in the background (suppose to) and some that will finish the current process which was started when Dashboard was active. If you better help maybe list the widgets you are using. They were not some experimental widgets. I've got them from The Apple site. So, I think this is pretty save, don't you? I'm sure it's just a simple code that could turn off this crazy useless background networking feature in dashboard. If I could programm in JAVA/C++ or whatever is needed I would fix this myself but I can't. I hope Apple will open their eyes on this matter. I have a fast Internet connection but people with a slow connection will not be able to get any benefits out of using Internet based widgets. And some of these people who don't even know what netstat is all about will be calling their service provider not knowing the cause of their slow Internet transferrates. ps: Maybe you could send me the name of some Internet based widget on the Apple site that would terminate the server connection when dashboard is closing. thx Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/87179-dashboard-widgets-keeps-being-connected-to-servers-while-dashboard-is-minimized-this-is-crazy-solution-anyone/#findComment-621234 Share on other sites
