mschlott
I just bought a new mother board. I got a good deal, so don't laugh too hard. ECS GF7100PVT-M3. http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Products/...D=7&LanID=0 It will not boot the any of the OS-X based DVDs that I have. I have 4 DVDs. 2 10.4.8, 1 10.4.9 and 1 10.5.1. They all fail in the same fasion. When using -v on the boot screen, there is one screen that displays then a second that flashes very quickly. I took a video of it to try and see what it was doing. The last thing I could make out, I think is the line that says "Enabling XMM register save/restore and SSE/SSE2 ". I have tried all the standard things, -v -x, -v -f, Platform=X86PC, Platform=ACPI, rd=disk0s0, rd=disk1s0, rd=disk2s0. Installed in this system are 1 SATA drive, 1 ATA drive, 1 ATA DVD. I have tried with no SATA drive, with the ATA hard drive as master and the DVD as the slave. I have also tried with only the DVD drive with it as primary master. I see no reference to this mother board or 630i chip set anywhere on the HCL. I think I'm SOL. Anyone agree or disagree. I'm looking for permission to give up. mschlott
Things are looking up. I managed to boot a JAS 10.4.8 DVD using -x -f -v cpus=1. It is currently installing. I tried the uphuck V1.4i_r3 and the iATKOS v1.0i with the same parameters but could not get it to boot past "Using 16384 buffer headers & 4096 cluster IO buffer header ". Any help? Willing to read and search, but not having a lot of luck. mschlott
Just for reference, I did get this to boot uxing the Kalyway 10.5.1 image with -x -f -v cpus=1. During the install it bailed out complaining about damaged media. I just re-burned the DVD at 1X and I'm trying a different DVD drive. I'll report back with results since this board is not listed in the HCL as working or not working. mschlott
Just a followup. I was never able to get this machine installed with the Kalyway 10.5.1 image. Any time it was booted via the DVD, it would not see any of the sata or USB drives. Even if it was able to get installed and boot correctly, I doubt it would have recognized the usb or sata devices. Avoid this board. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/87108-will-my-machine-boot-os-x-i-dont-think-so/#findComment-640883 Share on other sites

Monster2000
MSCHLOTT: Have you actually finished installing it? it might work? please update us if you actually finished installing it and the status of the usb and ata. Yes, i got it working with following parm "-x -f -v cpus=1" However, my problem was having a Firewire Card issue. I suggest slim your hardware as much as possible b4 installing! Good luck! leotyranus
Hi, I got a MSI mainboard with 630i chipset. I really cannot install 10.5.1.0 on it. Neither 10.4.8.0 JAS!!! I use SATA DVD and 1 SATA HD (4 partition, last one in FAT32). I tried with USB drives, IDE drives, but no results. Please, could you help me??? Good luck, I've seen several threads on the 630i and there hasn't been one single person to post one helpful thing in any of them, just people lost. I have one. I'm running a Gateway DX4720-03 which has an MSI MS-7339 which is NFORCE 6 630i/ Geforce 7100 w/ a replacement Geforce 9500GT. My issue from what I can deduce is that I can't change my SATA settings in my BIOS because there are no options for that, and the item is greyed out where it's present. I have pretty much the same setup, 1 SATA DVDRW and 1 SATA HD. I'm at the point of just giving up on OS X period, I mean this is the level of BS Windows puts me through... and the entire reason I was so open to trying Mac OS X which might have been a key factor in my future computer purchases. But this experience is leaving my mouth tasting sour in general towards all computers.
