Ok,

So as part of my installation of iAtkos I DIDN'T install CPUPowerManagement. However now i'm having big problems when I attempt to use my laptop on Battery. When plugged in to power its perfect. On Battery, applications don't launch, my wireless seems to not function and generally its unresponsive.

Can someone tell me

a. Is this related to me not installing the CPUPowerManagent?

b. What I need to install off the iAtkos DVD to install the CPUPowerManagent to solve this?

Mark.

Update: I installed the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext file. Didn't harm my system but made no difference to how the laptop behaves when I boot it on battery from cold.

So, here's the deal

1. When I boot the laptop from cold start on battery, the UI appears and the mouse is responsive however the top bar is incomplete and doesn't contain the time, volume, battery or wifi icons.

- The mouse icons is the spinny colored thing.

- I can launch applications from the Dock but they either fail to appear or are unresponsive.

2. When I boot on AC and then pull out the power cord so it runs on battery everything works perfectly the battery meter starts showing less battery and the machine works well.

So the problem is booting on battery. PLEASE ANYBODY have an ideas what i can try? HELP !!!!!

Hardware: Dell Precision M70

OS: iAtkos 1.0iR2

OK, well i tried the cpus=1 anyway and it didn't make a difference. I wonder whether it has anything to do with SpeedStep.

I checked my BIOS and couldn't find anything obvious to switch off there. I did try temporarily switching of Speedstep in the BIOS and it made no difference. Still booted up on battery unfunctional.

This is really frustrating. I have EVERYTHING else working. I just need this to work on Battery.

Anybody?

  • 4 weeks later...

My Thinkpad got a kernel panic when starting without charger.

A change in the Speedstep setup in BIOS fixed this.

In the BIOS I changed Speedstep >> "Mode for Battery" to Automatic (from Max Battery), and now I can boot without Panic.

Hope it helps.
