karmat
I have a Dell XPS m140 laptop with an Intel 915 chipset and it has the problem where it is looking for an external monitor at boot. I don't want to give up accelerated graphics. I have re-arranged it so that the internal screen is the main display, so as long as I have a monitor plugged in _at_all_ it boots. I can then disconnect it, hit "discover displays" and it removes the external monitor. This works even when the external monitor is off and unplugged. That got me thinking. I found this possible pinout on the net for a "fake monitor" plug. Anyone tried this? SVGA connector: Short pins 1, 2, and 3 to pin 5 by way of a single 75 ohm resistor. Supposedly this will fake out monitor detection for some BIOSes which require this. Wonder if it works for OSX?
