Robert Baileys
I formated my HD, and installed on a partition Mac OS X, and in another I planned on installing XP. (same disk) Mac OS x86 worked pretty well, sound and everything, except for ps2 keyboard problems. But when i installed XP, it said it needed to make "inactive" the osX partition. I said yes, and from there onwards I have been unable to get past the autodetecting of my third master, the HD. How can I recover it, since I only get to boot from a CD or floppy disk with my HD completely disconnected from the mobo? Btw, I have only one disk drive I can't boot. It just freezes right there. I only can access the BIOS setup and boot from a CD by disconnecting the disk drive. I've got a Asus P4P800-E Deluxe Motherboard, a dual core 3,2 prescott (SS3), and an 120 gb SATA disk. BTW, I had with the wesley patch running OS x86 10.4.3 8f1111 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/8605-startup-disk-another-windows-xp-partition-hidden-problems/#findComment-53460 Share on other sites

Robert Baileys
I got to boot Mac OS installer and the disk utility from the dvd. But, for it to boot I had to disconnect my HD, if not it freezes because the main boot sector is hidden. Ergo, how can I access an utility with my HD plugged off? R. Bear Helms
I don't have access to your hardware - some things are really tough to figure answers just in your head without some poking, prodding, trial-by-error. Generally speaking, with my mom's Gateway for example, I had to make 2 changes, both assume a BIOS that allows you to do this. Without a BIOS with these features, I'm at a total loss how to make a system work otherwise. 1) BIOS change of boot device priority to put DVD booting first above any hard drive listings. 2) BIOS change of telling it the slave hard drive was the primary boot volume of the system. You lack 2 drives, so you are asking for headaches filed under "booting OS x86 out of a partition." I think there is some info in the Wiki (see my sig for a link) about installing on a partition. The solutions I read tend to deal with VMWARE or a partition boot managing program, neither will be installed on your system (at least from factory). 10.4.3 Install Guide which seems to have information about dual boot.
