rsilves
I have a Core 2 Quad Q6600, P5W DH Deluxe board, Asus 7300GT video card, 2GB of RAM, a SATA 250GB HD, a SATA DVD-RW and an IDE DVD reader. I'm trying to install Kalyway (downloaded the version that is supposed to work OK) and it freezes. The first copy I had downloaded was a zipped file, and it froze at "9 minutes left", or (tried many times) maybe it installed but at the end it showed an error saying I should try again. Then I knew that the zipped version was bad, and downloaded the one that worked for everyone (and checked the MD5 code). I put the DVD on the SATA DVD-RW, open disk utility and erase my disk with the "Mac OS X (with register)" format. Then I choose Vanilla Kernel, Vanilla ACPI Fix, NVInject desktop, P5W DH Audio, the wifi driver, and EFI (guid partitioning). It started to install, and at around 10% it froze while "calculating remaining time" (well, something similar, I'm using it in spanish). What might be the problem? Am I doing something wrong? Can it be because I recorded the DVD at 8x (in a 16x recorder with up-to-16x DVD)? Should I try it in a slower speed? Can it be because of the SATA drive? Thanks, Rodrigo Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/86034-kalyway-installation-freezes/ Share on other sites
rsilves
Yesterdy, after the time it froze around 10%, I was going to install it again, restarted, and as I forgot to press the key on startup -to make it boot from DVD-, it booted from the HD, and Leopard loaded OK. It showed the welcome video, I could open the Dashboard and the Finder. But I knew that it was not installed completely, so I left it there and restarted to boot from the DVD. "Erased" the HD, with the default "quick" way, and tried to install again, now with a new DVD that I copied from the first one (on Win), but at 2x. This time it installed, but at the end it said that the system had not been installed correctly, and it recommended to try again and to contact the vendor. Later I tried to format the HD, selecting the option to erase all the data, and went to sleep. When I woke up, the progress bar was around 80% and it showed an error (to the left of the progress bar). Sorry I didn't write it down. Now I'm formatting the HD again, erasing all the data (will take around 40 min). Any opinion?? rsilves
The user rtomek told me that the screensaver freezes, so I think that it froze because of that. The last times I installed I touched the mouse every minute and it did not freeze. I could format, using the IDE DVD drive and the DVD that was recorded in slow speed. Then when trying to install, the same error appears at the end of the installation. It says this: (translated from Spanish) ---- Mac OS X could not be installed on this computer [big exclamation mark in a yellow triangle] The installer has detected an unknown error. Contact the manufacturer for help. Click "restart" to restart the computer and try again. ---- The last time this happened, I clicked Restart and took out the DVD to see if the system loaded. It showed an error as if the HD was empty. Now I pressed the reset button, because maybe the installer deleted the files if I clicked Restart. But now it says "b0 eror". I had this error before, don't remember when. WHAT can I do?! Installing Tiger again right now... rtomek
We solved the issue. We think it was because of a space in the name of the partition , hopefully that helps if someone else runs into this problem. rsilves
Finally worked. Thanks to the user rtomek, who told me the things to check that could be causing the problem. The thing that I think was causing the problem is: I was naming the disk "Hackintosh HD". I named it "Hackintosh" (the main difference is the absence of a space. don't think the lenght of characters matters). Things that might have made it work (things that I did, but might not have done a difference if I only changed the name of the Hard Drive). Updating the BIOS. Installing with the Hard Drive connected to the 4th SATA port (or other than the first). Way of formatting the disk (Instead of using the Erase tab, used the Partition Tab, only one GUID partition). The installation restarted when finished, I think it didn't show a screen saying to remove the DVD. But I removed it and it didn't boot, it said "System config file '/com.apple.Boot.plist' not found". Changed the HD back to the SATA 1 port and it booted. Thanks for all the answers!! Hope this is useful for someone... Rodrigo Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/86034-kalyway-installation-freezes/#findComment-612148 Share on other sites
