PokerCardEnt
Hi guys, I'm new to everything hackintosh, but I do have a Macbook. I'm also a n00b to building computers in general. (But I am going to take an enrichment course on it) I want to know if the following components would work together: (essentially this: http://thepeopleshost.com/suspended.page/?tag=macbook-pro with more RAM and a much faster processor) $174.99 Shuttle SD30G2 Plus Intel Socket T(LGA775) Intel Core 2 Duo / Pentium D / Pentium 4 Intel 945GC 2 x 240Pin Intel GMA 950 Barebone - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16856101059 Processor: $189.99 Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819115029 Memory: $44.99 Kingston 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Desktop Memory - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820134192 Hard Drive: $66.99 Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250310AS 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822148261 SuperDrive: $29.99 SAMSUNG Black 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 20X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 20X DVD±R DVD Burner - OEM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16827151153 If I get the right drivers this would be perfectly compatible , correct? Also, could I throw an airport wireless card in there and make it work with my Airport Extreme? Thanks! Any advice is appreciated! petrosh
Havent seen your post earlier, hope you still have faith and ready to build your Hackint0sh. I built the same exact system, based on www.wildwobby.com instructions. It looked great on paper, small, inexpensive, expandable. I used the Shuttle, Core2Duo CPU, SATA HD and SATA Samsung "superdrive", 2 GB of Corsair RAM and it works like a dream. The Intel integrated 950 graphics should work just fine, but I got a cheap (and great) NVidia 7300 video card - essentially the one in the MacPro for better performance. I will keep checking back in this thread, go ahead, build it and post any questions here. Haven't had any luck with the EDUP wireless PCI card I tried yet, but I am working on a solution petr0s Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/85811-will-it-blend/#findComment-728281 Share on other sites
PeterHaas
Also, could I throw an airport wireless card in there and make it work with my Airport Extreme? The Shuttle solution to wireless is a USB 2.0-based affair with a cable to an available header and a pass-through SMC connector through the case to an external antenna. Probably Realtek based. Expensive, but a highly polished integration into the Shuttle concept. I've used external USB 2.0 ZyDas cards (AWLL-3026) and the ZyDas 4.5.70 10.4 (Universal) driver with good results also the USB 2.0 Realtek cards (AWLL-3???) and the Realtek 10.4 (Universal) driver. Very economical. Under $10 for the now discontinued ZyDas-based cards. Under $7 for the current Realtek-based cards. Once I got the Marvel gigabit LAN to work, I abandoned the USB 2.0 dongles. Yes, the Airport Extreme card should work, if you want to give up the sole PCI slot. Certain Belkin PCI cards work seamlessly with Apple's Airport Extreme drivers. petrosh
Shuttle update 2 months later, I ve returned the Shuttle to Newegg twice. The first one they replaced, the second time (and having gone beyond the return grace period, they should ve directed me to the manufacturer for warranty repair) they gave me a full refund. Problem? The Shuttle started giving kernel panics, no apparent reason. I probably should ve installed Windows just to check if it is the hardware or my installation, but I dont really do windows. I kept trying different things, and it kept crashing with kernel panics, without leaving a crash log. Weird. Once I tried to reboot after a crash, and it wouldnt even go into the BIOS. Sounds like a dieing power supply I thought. Maybe a C2D and a Geforce 7300 was too much? I dont know. I sent it back, purchased another good ol' p5W DH and a cheap case and the new system is flying since. Bottom line, I wont be looking at Shuttles again, shame, cause they are cheap and very nicely sized. I am a happy Newegg customer though.
