Guest
I'm confused slightly which one to download because for me when i try to install Mac OS X 10.4.8 JaS i get on VMware 'Because of a problem, installing Mac OS X could not be completed.' (I only have 512MB RAM, 128MB allocated to Video) So maybe Panther could work... any good Panther files or patches ??? I don't know what to do... I could get more RAM... dunno... hecker
Sounds like your computer is really old. Maybe you should consider upgrading. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/85561-panther-or-tiger/#findComment-607125 Share on other sites
Ludvig M
Yeah, it sounds like your computer is old, as hecker said. Why not post your hardware speccs? Amon Duul
Old? Nah. I've just installed 10.4.5 on a Celeron 1.8ghz with 256mb RAM and a 32mb graphics card. Runs fine, better than Windows. I would suggest building a cheap Intel P4 system though if you're making a desktop x86. With at least a gig of RAM. Or try the 10.4.4 with 10.4.5 patch ISO. Reveeen
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=85394 At what point is posting, posting, and posting some more, considered spamming? Unless you have what is called "SSE3" Tiger is the install for you, but of course this does not address your ram "problem", or your reading and comprehension "problems", maybe this is not for you? Wrenbird
also, I don't believe panther is at all compatible with osx86. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/85561-panther-or-tiger/#findComment-607644 Share on other sites

Slinger2g
Don't install it using VMWare. Your only success would be to do a native install!!! P.S. Panther will not install on X86 platform's as said above. You need Tiger. Guest
Are you sure that it will install with the RAM i have ? And also i still don't understand why Panther won't work ? It's strange however that it can be installed with only 256 RAM and each time for me Tiger Installation crashes completely (refer to error on first post) on my computer which has 384 RAM available as i've said before Will native resolve the installation problem... instead of VMware how did you install it Amon Duul ? Slinger2g
Ok ready???? First of all, Panther was made to work on PowerPC platforms, and will never install on generic hardware.PERIOD Second, the reason why you are having issues is because with 384mb ram in a windows environment trying to install OS X in VMWare is really straining your computer, thus the reason for tiger crashing. Its a memory crash in windows and nothing else. Just do a native install if you want os x on your comp. and you shounl be fine. Might run horribly slow because of your ram situation but it will go.
