After browsing the web for a while or making a big file transfer, the ethernet will completely die. When it dies, a 'sudo dmesg' on the command line shows Apple3Com3C90xB: Watchdog timer expired.

When it works, it works great. Full-speed file transfers and everything.

I have seen a few other people complain of this symptom. Anyone have any ideas on a fix?

Hello

I have the same problem ;) but i thik to have a solution :)

On a first you need to disabled HPET in the bios and verify you can make big transfer on the lan

If it works fine but you need HPET enabled for another system, you can reenable HPET in the bios and add in the kernel flags nohpet

Please just drop a little post if it works for you

i'm just testing your trick daresfr.

at this moment i haven't activate hpet, i'am holding my connection for 42 minutes,

but with hpet enabled iwas holding my connection for 1h 12m about.

but I don't use hardly my connection ( just surf, and little stuff )

[edit] sorry for you but your trick doesn't work at all :/

If i boot with the HPET ( without nohpet flag ) i have network working during 1 or 2 hours sometimes more ( 12h ), but with the HPET, it never works more than 30 minutes.

( sorry for my english, i'm french :/ )

BUMP! I have the exact same problem. I think a lot of people do. I am not sure what the issue is, if it is a driver or not. I am also using a 3Com card. Is there a way for me to check what kext it utilizes, so I can try to manually reload it and see if that helps? the HPET trick doesnt help, I am running on XxX 10.5.5 edition. Everything works great, but network dies after "aggravated traffic". I am on a 780i motherboard, so maybe this is an issue with nforce boards? I am not using the onboard networking, of course, but a 3com PCI card. arrrg i wish this were fixed. I had a Broadcom wireless card that did NOT have this problem, but I gave the card away =P maybe ill get another. Unless someone can shed some light on this!

My dmesg also shows the 3com94x watchdog expired. Hmmmm..Ive tried everything, HPET, disabling onboard network in BIOS, updating to a dif kext..just booted with cpu=1, Ill see if that works..but would not be a good workaround..

EDIT: THIS thread http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...73347&st=60 is quite helpful
