DavidinCT
Hi all ! I've been reading here for a over week now looking into this OSx86 project. So, I have been trying the install (after playing with Tiger on Vmware). I've been following these steps in this to prep the drive, attempting to dual boot with Vista on partition 0 and mac OSx on partition 1 (97gb for windows, 19.7 for mac). http://inihilist.wordpress.com/2008/01/07/...and-fool-proof/ System is a MSI PT880 board, 3.2ghz intel (supports SSE,SSE2 and SSE3) with 1.5gb of dual channel ram, drive is a Maxtor 6Y120P0. Packages I've tried iAtkos 1.0i iAtkos 1.0ir2 Kalyway's version Made sure I had the correct check sum on the downloads. Everything goes good accept for when the files start copying, it stops about 20-25% with the error of ""the disk may be damaged. Please try installing on another disc." It's pointing to the hard drive(partition) I am installing it on with this error. The DVDs are burnt at the slowest speeds with verifiy on to make sure there is not any errors. I'm sure that is not the problem. I've been reading around and have not seen anyone with the same problem. I am sure I am doing something wrong here, just would like advice on where to go or learn what I am doing wrong here. Thanks in advance ! -Dave Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/84794-the-disk-may-be-damaged/ Share on other sites
DavidinCT
I attempted it again tonight, with iAtkos 1.0ir2 and Kalyway's 10.5. Both times, same errors in the same place. The full error is "The installer is experiencing errors installing onto "macosx". The disk may be damaged. Please try installing on another disc." Checking through the log, it shows errors extracting files. The progress bar is about 20% when it bombs out. This happens on both releases, so I know it can't be the DVDs. Does anyone have an idea ? Is this a drive formating issue or a partition problem or something else ? This is driving me nuts, I would like to get a chance to try 10.5.1... help !!!! -Dave Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/84794-the-disk-may-be-damaged/#findComment-602179 Share on other sites

DavidinCT
are you using a pata cddrive? I guess there's these issues if your using a older style dvd/cd drive. try using a SATA connected dvd drive ... Tell me this (as I only have PATA DVD drives on this system), would I even get that far to be able to get to the install process ? The drive is a 6 month old NEC Dual Layer burner that I am installing from. When the install goes, it verifies the DVD with out any problems and starts installing. This makes me feel that it's not the DVD drive. If this is really the issue (as I am thinking it's more of a formatting issue because in the logs it appears to copy files), is there a work around ? Any more thoughts here ? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/84794-the-disk-may-be-damaged/#findComment-602987 Share on other sites
