~pcwiz
OK heres the problem. I have a video card with a DVI-I dual link connector and a monitor that only has a DVI-D Dual Link connector (see below for port illustrations): Unfortunately, the cable I bought from eBay was DVI-I Dual Link at both ends. So you see that there are 4 extra pins (2 on top, 2 on the bottom or that thin horizontal pin) on the cable. Long story short: Cable fits into my video card's port, but it doesn't fit into my monitor because of those 4 extra pins. Would it be safe to take pliers or tweezers or something and pluck those extra 4 pins out? EDIT: Apparently I can. Look at this forum topic: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=34951 Why can't you just get a DVD-D cable ? It should fit the DVI-I port as well ? Or "remove" the 4 pins on one side of the DVD-I cable ? EDIT2: Wikipedia says differently: The long flat pin on a DVI-I connector is wider than the same pin on a DVI-D connector, so it is not possible to connect a male DVI-I to a female DVI-D by removing the 4 analog pins Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/84669-problem-with-dvi-cable/ Share on other sites
