djx18
hit f8 when it starts counting down on the boot screen, type -x -v and hit enter Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/84481-leopard-not-booting/#findComment-599774 Share on other sites
TheTimster
whats your video card model. if you have an 8 series card, macvidia is known to cause kp's with 8 series cards. you should use nvinject instead Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/84481-leopard-not-booting/#findComment-599902 Share on other sites

TheTimster
oh yeah, i forget to mention, to get you machine to boot so you can install nvinjectgo, you have to hit f8 when darwin comes up and type in -x -s. then when the singleuser prompt comes up, type this in: /sbin/mount [space] -uw [space] / [enter] mv [space] /system/library/extensions/[name of kext that you installed] [space] delete.delete [enter] rm [space] /system/library/extensions.mkext [enter] reboot [enter] let the machine reboot and boot up normally. you won't have qe/ci or resolution support but you'll be able to use the machine to get nvinjectgo Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/84481-leopard-not-booting/#findComment-599958 Share on other sites
A.J
Well i used Macvidia installer, how do i know the name of the kext installed ? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/84481-leopard-not-booting/#findComment-599966 Share on other sites
TheTimster
re-read that post, i edited it. as for the name of the kext, you can find it by navigation to /system/library/extensions and looking for something along the lines of macvidia.kext. that's probably what it's called but check to be sure. you can also do it in single user mode by navigating to the same folder and doing an is command (just this "is" [enter]) and looking for it in the list. TheTimster
i keep forgetting you cant use the system yet. okay, spam f8 when your system starts, then when darwin comes up, enter -v and -s with a space between them. then when single user comes up, type "cd [space] /system/library/extensions [enter]" then type "is [enter]" look for the kext. then follow the instructions in my previous post in the order i gave you Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/84481-leopard-not-booting/#findComment-600072 Share on other sites

TheTimster
forget everything i said. i just did some research on the macvidia system and discovered that it overwrites the stock nvidia drivers, meaning you are screwed even if you delete them the and get the system running, nvinject requires the stock kexts to function. do you have your osx86 disc handy? you need to do a reinstall and then download nvinjectgo. do you have instant messaging? it would be easier for me to help you there. A.J
Oh i see, ya i got it. i'll re-install everything. Am going to use Nvinjectgo. Is there anything i have to do when i install it so that i dont fall into this problem again. Also same thing with other drivers like wireless or anything ? TheTimster
to uninstall nvinjectgo, you just follow those instructions i gave you before to remove a kext i singleuser mode. for the future, whenever you are installing a new driver, do some reasearch to find out what kexts it replaces, and back them up to an easy to remember folder at the root of your drive (backup extensions works) and note them somewhere so if you have to go back, you can without reinstalling. try nvinjectgo and let me know if that works. was everything else working? wireless/ethernet/sound blah blah blah? and im curious, what distro are you using (iatkos, kalyway, toh)? A.J
i re-installed everything, I tried NVinject and its working . I am using iAtkos. Do i need to repair disk permissions everytime i put any driver ? Oh ya mostly everything works except for wireless (intel 3945 :/) and webcam Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/84481-leopard-not-booting/#findComment-600926 Share on other sites
