Being a newbie and just finding this web site yesterday, I thought I would share my experience. I am a long time Mac OSX user and this is more for fun that anything else (my Intel Mac is already ordered).

So I got 10.4.3 up and running in a VMware session. On real hardware will be the next trick. Here is what I did:

- Downloaded 10.4.3 as a DMG file

- Extracted it on my Mac and then burned it to DVD

- On my PC, I used nero to create an ISO of it.

- I downloaded JaS 1111a Generic Patch Final (thank you Mr. JaS for your hard work).

- Used ppf-o-matic3 on my PC and patched my ISO

- Used Daemon tools to set my ISO as a DVD drive for VMware

Then created by VMware session (workstation 5.5). Choose FreeBSD, gave it ram and picked an IDE drive (I accidently selected SCSI the first time and it could not see the drive).

Installed the OS with no other changes or settings other than what I did above. I have to admit, its pretty darn cool. Next time I will build as a legacy 4.x workstation and transfer it to my ESX server to see if it runs there - I'm pretty sure it will - but that would be kinda cool.

I have a HP d530 laying around the office, that will be my next test machine.

Thanks to everyone who has posted before me - just did enough reading to make it all work.

Hi, i'm newtrax and i'm an osx86 newbie too. my experiences so far...

Acer Travelmate 8104wlmi notebook, 2GHz Centrino, 1Gb ram, ATI x700, Realtek 880 audio, Broadcom XTREME LAN.

'obtained' :o macosx_10.4.3_JaS.1111a.Generic.Patch.V4.2.iso - burnt to dvd-r

used partition magic to create a 3Gb fat32 partiton (for cross OS copying) and 40 Gb of unassigned space at the end of my drive.

did the diskpart id=af thing and set to active

rebooted off the OSx86 DVD

USED THE DISK UTILITY OPTIONS WITHIN THE OSX INSTALLER TO FORMAT & PREPARE THE WHOLE 40 Gb OF SPACE READY FOR INSTALLATION!

Installed OSx86 without a hitch - worked fine after install 1024x768 res, no sound or lan.

TRICKY BIT - had to use a bootable CD with gdisk on it to set XP partition back to active.

Once back in XP installed Acronis Disk Director Suite 10 - specifically the OS selector part.

Dual boot OK!! :hysterical:

Editted com.boot.plist to set resolution to 1400x1050x32@85 - works fantastic on this notebook (even though LCD native res is 1680x1050x32 it fills the screen unstretched fine???

graphics are very slick, without glitches, even without core image or quartz extreme.

(quicktime movies and itunes visuals are perfect, but won't go into fullscreen mode)

Still can't get LAN working, so using the working firewire port to network through another PC via network bridge IT WORKS GREAT - full internet & PC networking access at 400mbps! bluetooth also working.

Tried lots of methods in this forum for getting the azalia 880 audio working, but no success yet, hoping to try my maudio mobilepre usb audio interface once I try logic 7.1 express anyway.

overall VERY pleased and impressed to have OSX on my ACER laptop running so well without any MAJOR hassle. :D

ps. my itunes said expired, so went straight to apple.com and installed 6.02 + quicktime 7, rebooted and everything is OK - quicktime trailers working great.

once the 10.4.4/10.5 efi is bypassed and more drivers/extensions become available I can see this being a SERIOUS VISTA alternative. Which was on this partition (vista 5270) but got erased to make room for OSx86.

Apple are wrong not to sell it Software only - IMO. :2cents:
