So I finally got 10.4.3 installed. It took me a couple days to realize I didn't have my DVD drive set on auto-detect in the BIOS, so naturally it could not boot to any DVD. I'm a moron, I know.

Anyways, It runs ok but, it seems as though the ATI video card drivers may be whacked. I say this because any application that involves video or 3D animation(ie. screensaver), it crashes and tells me to reboot. The error I get when the screensaver crashes is "screensaverengine failure", or something to that nature. Also just the UI in general, like accessing the Dashboard and such is kind of jumpy and glitchy. Don't get me wrong, I know OSX86 isn't supposed to run on these machines natively but there has got to be a fix for this.

My specs are:

AMD Athlon 64 2800+

Gigabyte K8M800M motherboard

768MB ram

40GB hard drive

ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 128MB

I installed from the osx86-fully-patched-sse2-rosetta-ati.iso.

This is what it says about my graphics card in System Profiler.

Can anybody tell me if there is a fix or point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Want to see my proof? :D

From what it shows in your system profiler screenshot, it looks like the computer didn't install the ATI drivers right, or there is something wrong with them. You may want to note that the ATI drivers you can download from the site for the Mac ATI cards will NOT work, and may cause issues that were not previously there. I suggest searching the forums for anyone who is making custom ATI drivers for the OSx86 installation.

New people expecting that they will save time and energy by downloading an already converted/patched ISO will learn sooner or later that it is much safer to convert and patch the file yourself. What works on other computer doesn't necessarily mean it will work on your system. And do you really know if the ATI patch was intended for the 9000 or the x series? Have you repaired permission? Who authored the patched ISO?

I think the problem (correct me if i'm wrong) is just that he tried to download the Apple version of the ATI drivers made specifically for the Apple brand ATI cards (the ones that come with macs). A friend of mine tried to use them too, and that's exactally how his looked. You need to find someone/some group of people making custom drivers specifically for OSx86

This is not true at all. It is much safer to find an ISO that has already been patched, due to the fact that the patches made on the ISO are generic, and if the person who created this ISO confirmed it to work, as well as anyone else who downloaded and reviewed it, then the ISO should work barring any normal hardware incompatabilities known to be there for everyone. If you patch the ISO yourself, you run the risk of messing up the patch, or hitting a glitch somewhere in the process.

Yeah I hadn't tried to install ATI Mac drivers yet because I thought it would definitely be a problem. I think somebody said Maxxuss made some drivers for some ATI cards or an update for CoreGraphics or something. I'm just not sure how to go about getting the new stuff installed or where to even get the new stuff.

And is this from the planet that everyone has the same computer specs? Have you actually ran a consensus on who has the same hardware (SATA/PATA/PCIE/AGP/NIC/Audio/install method) and which patched ISO they are using? Okay, going back to planet earth, once you have done the patching yourself 2 or 3 times without any problems, it will be harder for you to screw up.

Or wait, i'll make a ISO for my 865 board, and my friends will make one for there VIA board, and there friends make one for there own system. Lets test them all out to see which Patched ISO works the best for your system. Make any sense?

ATI Mac driver? If you read the board someone already did that and managed to distruct either the board or the video card (not sure). The point is, don't... Don't even install the patched ATI drivers that maxxuss compiled himself untill you read the thread maxxuss started himself.

edit: if you aren't sure what patches maxxuss made, go directly to his site. don't waste your time sifting through this massive database. Afterwards, ask questions you can't find using the search feature

So Domino, thanks I guess for the info. If you read my post I said I hadn't installed any drivers yet because I was unsure of the errors I would end up with. The reason I am asking this question here is because even though I went to Maxxuss' website, I wanted to ask people here if they have gone through the same thing and have fixed their issues. I am doing this because even though I'm sure Maxxuss' patches work great, I also saw somewhere here where some people were having problems with a couple of the patches he made. Granted he had them fixed quickly but initially there were issues. I'm covering my bases before I run into problems.

As of now, you are unsure of alot of things. And you should be. But your first mistake was to download a prepatched ISO which you will notice no one will reply to. I highly advice you to clean the slate. Fresh drive, fresh dmg, fresh JaS 4.2b Patch. Then we are able to help. Have a read over at the stuckied thread (sorry forget where) on this board.

On a final note. Don't make a mistake and think that things will go smoothly on your first try. Some of us that have near to TDK can say so. But lots of use will not and will continue to reinstall and try to improve our Hack-a-Mac.
