Hi,

I've installed iATKOS v10.5.1 on a Dell Latitude D630 to go along w/ a previous installation of Ubuntu Desktop v7.10. The installation seems to have gone all right, but I'm having trouble getting an option to dual-boot. I've ascertained that if I include an entry for /dev/sda3 (the OSX part) in /boot/grub/menu.lst, I will be given the option of booting either Ubuntu or OSX. Would someone please let me know what info I need to enter into menu.lst? Thank you for your help.

Jeff

So, here's an update and a bit more info...

This is the default /boot/grub/menu.lst

title Ubuntu 7.10, kernel 2.6.22-14-generic

root (hd0,1)

kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.22-14-generic

initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.22-14-generic

title Ubuntu 7.10, kernel 2.6.22-14-generic (recovery mode)

root (hd0,1)

kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.22-14-generic

initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.22-14-generic

title Ubuntu 7.10, memtest86+

root (hd0,1)

kernel /boot/memtest86+.bin

After the last entry, I've added...

title Mac OSx86 Leopard v10.5.1

root (hd0,1)

makeactive

chainloader +1

When I boot to the grub menu and select the OSx86 entry, however, I get this error message:

Error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

...little more info...

So, I finally figured out that Mac OSx86 Leopard v10.5.1 should be root (hd0,2), since it's the 3rd partition on the HDD. Even so, after making the proper changes, I still get the Error 13. I went back into Ubuntu and looked at fdisk. This is what I see...

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System

/dev/sda1 1 498 4000153+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris

/dev/sda2 499 5478 40001850 83 Linux

/dev/sda3 5479 14593 73216237+ af Uknown

I don't know how much of this helps, but I figure, more data is better data.

So, I tried booting the OSx86 partition from the GParted Live CD. When I select the partition, I get this error message:

Booting `Boot partition #3 on first hard drive`

rootnoverify (hd0,2)

chainloader +1

Error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format

Press any key to continue...

After further investigation, it appears that I may have chosen an incorrect format for my HFS+ partition. The guide I went through said to make sure it was MBR, although from what I'm now reading, it seems as if it won't be bootable unless it's GUID. Can someone please confirm this for me? Thank you.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi,

I'm in the same boat. I triple booted Vista, Ubuntu, Leopard.

After adding an entry to my menu.1st ... I also get the Error 13.

Could this be because of EFI? The guide also says MBR .. is there a way to make this work with EFI?

Please help. :(

Thanks

EDIT: BTW, I'm still searching the forums :)
