After trying both iATKOS and a fresh kalyway disc (both installing on a much-enlarged OS X partition)--I'm really at a loss as to what to do.

Not sure what to do here--the Network pane in System Preferences recognizes the ethernet (and MAC address), but if I go into the Terminal and run ifconfig en0, it says that the interface doesn't exist.

How do I go about adding this device such that OS X recognizes the device and I can thus connect to the Internet?

Everything else works just fine--it's just the blasted Internet.

My ethernet card is an Intel 82801G (ICH7) LAN adapter (included with Intel 945G chipset on an Asus Leonite mobo)--didn't see anything out on the Web, other than that Tiger 10.4.8 supports it.

Do I need additional drivers--or how can I get the terminal to recognize and activate the interface

try to list all the interfaces by typing in terminal

sudo -s
 enter_your_password_if_any
 ifconfig

maybe you have en1, not en0

OK, I have:

gif0

lo0

str0

fw0

{edit--four interfaces)

I'm guessing gif0 and str0 are default psuedo-devices, the other two are the loopback and a FireWire. en1 doesn't show, probably because I have no wifi card installed here--it's a hard-wired desktop workstation.

These four are also found on the Macs at school, so I'm also guessing those four are put in by virtue of installing OS X.

I know it's an OS X problem because I have ethernet running on a separate 20GiB Linux partition.
