fleisch
Hi all... Quick nooby question: How can I tell (after Kalyway install) if the system is actually using the vanilla kernel? thx! fleisch
velvetk
without the kernel, your computer would not boot
fleisch
let me rephrase that...i'm sure that the install is using a (any) kernel. i just want to know if it is the unmodified vanilla kernel or a hacked version... thx fleisch
velvetk
oh in that case, you could try this: open up Terminal and type: in uname -a. If you want to run a specific kernel, while your computer booting up, press F8, type in the name of your kernel. To find out what kernel you have in your system, do ls / in your Terminal. Have a look at /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist. This is the file that you can specify the boot options.

Goron
type "uname -a" in a terminal. In case of vanilla kernel the output should look like: Darwin Mac-Pro 9.1.0 Darwin Kernel Version 9.1.0: Wed Oct 31 17:46:22 PDT 2007; root:xnu-1228.0.2~1/RELEASE_I386 i386 where the bolded part is the machine name ....
