00diabolic
Hello, I have a P4 system that I want to run either tiger on or Leopard. So far both Iatkos and kalway leopard installs fail on this system. I have uphuck 10.4.9 running on it now but there are issues and I am wondering if there is something better out there for what I have. My specs are: Gigabyte GA-8IP900 p4 titan Intel 865P chipset Link: http://www.giga-byte.com.tw/Products/Mothe...?ProductID=1641 Sapphire RADEON 9600 Pro 256MB AGP. I also have access to a ALL in Wonder 8500DV 3Com Ethernet card 3c905b-tx Also have access to a realtek ethernet card. Creative Sound Blaster live 5.1 Digital SB0220 Also have a TV tuner card by Win TV 61111 Rev AM _________________________________________________________________________ I would love to get as much of the above items to work as I can but I doubt that all will be possibile. What I have gotten to work with uphuck 10.4.9 are basicly video and nothing else. Ethernet will not work and no sound. Is there any hope for creative sound and 3com ethernet. Very common on a pc seems like you should be able to use them on a mac. I used callisto b008 & AGP gart 1.1 lite for the radeon. There are issues however with video. Lots of weird block appear on the screen while im using it. I believe they call them mouse tearing. Also in about this mac I see that my card is reported as a PCI card. Chipset Model: Radeon 9600 AP Type: Display Bus: PCI VRAM (Total): 256 MB Vendor: ATI (0x1002) Device ID: 0x4150 Revision ID: 0x0000 Displays: Sceptre X20G-NagaIII: Resolution: 1680 x 1050 @ 60 Hz Depth: 32-bit Color Core Image: Supported Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz 2D Extreme: Supported Quartz Extreme: Supported If anyone can help me I would like to know what my options are as for other installers? JAS, XxX, other uphuck releases, what offers the best support for my config? I know I will have to do some tinkering to get it perfect but what release is the best to start from. I also would like to upgrade to 10.4.11 if I can so starting with a release thats already 10.4.11 would be a lot easyer. Reveeen
Go for the XxX release. In the release notes there is instructions and a hardware list. Loose the 3Com NIC (go with your Realtek) A Nvidia video card is preferable (a FX5200, or FX5500 can be had for under $50 and WORKS) (there is a tutorial on installing on a ATI chipset board in the forum, give it a read, paying attention to the video part if you insist on keeping the 9600: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=74426) The Creative sound card is out, go with your on-board Realtek ALC655 (there are not, and as far as I can figure out, any drivers for this and OSx, guys have made drivers and OS updates break them, so they gave up) No tuner card (being a Windoze based card) You are in a situation where the OS dictates the hardware, get used to it. 00diabolic
Reveeen.. THANKS.. What about SATA? The 865P chipset has SATA yet I dont have a SATA drive hooked up. I am guessing that I should have no issues if I go to use SATA drive on this system with OSX correct? I gotta go with my Radeon 9600 Pro as its the most memory I of any card I own 256MB. I have about 50% of XxX release of 10.4.11 rev 1.0 so I should have it soon. This appears to be the most recent version that I can find. Is that correct? Thanks for all your help. Next up is dual booting the system. Uscg.Matthew
I am more then happy with Mac.Nub Installation. for the exact filename reffer to my post on the first page of this forum. I was trying all the uphuck versions.. I was able to get them to install.. just not very well. I found my major problem was that i was not using RAID and that is where a lot of "Waiting for root" errors come in. If you have it, and you have an SATA hd hooked up.. i recommend it. and Mac.Nub is amazing. It has the old IONetwork kext. as well. Easy install. lots of drivers. Gl man! Gl man!Matthew Does mac nub have radeon 9600 pro drivers like uphuck? Perhaps better? From what I read x200 is basically the same as the Radeon 9600 series. I believe XxX does have those drivers but not sure? If I get nothing from XxX ill try mac nub but I dont use Raid at all although I believe the intel SATA controller on this board may support that. 00diabolic
I am completely lost here. I have tried installing XxX release like 10 times now selecting some different configs every time and i keep getting this damn "please try installing again" message at the end of the setup or it freezes towards the end of setup. What on earth am i doing wrong here? I do have to start it up with safemode to get it to start but thats nothing strange. Almost every disc I have had to do that with because of video. Here is what I have tried: 1. TOH 8.11.1 SSE2/SSE3 NO EFI - tried it about 4 times 2. 8.9.1 universal kernal and patches -tried it at least 4 times 3. all recommended patches checked 4. All none EFI patches checked 5. None of the ATA/USB patches as I have ICH5 and should have NO ISSUES 6. ATI callisto b003 and b008 (tried one and then the other but both should work with 9600 pro) 7. Agp gart 1.2 lite and agpgart port issue patch for 865chipsets 8. Azaliaaudio for realtek audio 9. realtekr1000 driver as i believe it will work with my PCI ethernet realtek card not sure. Maybe the generic one is the one I should use. still should not cause whats happening. 10. some of the misc items on the bottom radion tool and everything else except powermangement bundle and insomnia patch THATS it, it should install. YET it does not .. constantly asked to try installing again. WHY WHY!!!!! uphuck installed the first time I figured out the right combination. SO what is the deal with this install? I want 10.4.11 and I really want the 865p AGP gart patch thats on this install. This is why i picked up the XxX release. Can anyone HELP ME???????????????????? IS this related to the kernal? There are sooo many options on this install? What one would any of you recommend I try with this setup? That I have not already tried. Reveeen
Did you READ all the documentation? When I did my first install I did not make a MBR, *thinking* the install would do it for me, the process of making a MBR is in the documentation (master boot record). 1) leave selected Essential System Software and Intel SSE3 kernel (the first two) 2) add in 8.9.1 (april23) (everything) and the Recommended patches 3) graphics drivers (callisto 03+AGP Gart) 4) ALC audio (Realtek.......choose what you have) 5) I don't know what NIC you have Now I usually add the ATA and USB controllers to suit.
